Jack Huston Reunites With Boardwalk Empire Stars for Award-Worthy Directorial Debut Day of the Fight

As a cinephile with a deep appreciation for the art of storytelling and a soft spot for films that delve into the complexities of human nature, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming release of “Day of the Fight.” Having had the privilege of watching several films from various genres and eras, I can confidently say that Jack Huston’s directorial debut promises to be a standout in the world of cinema.

In a significant development, the directorial first attempt of Jack Huston, who is known for his roles in “Boardwalk Empire” and “Mayfair Witches”, titled “Day of the Fight”, has secured a distributor and is being considered for an awards campaign. The film will bring Huston together with several cast members from the critically acclaimed HBO series, “Boardwalk Empire”. As reported by THR, Michael Pitt, Nicolette Robinson, Ron Perlman, John Magaro, Anatol Yusef, and another star from “Boardwalk Empire”, Steve Buscemi, are also part of this project. A trailer for the movie has been released (see below), with a premiere scheduled for November 15 in New York and Los Angeles, followed by a nationwide release.

Not only does the movie boast an impressive lineage, but it additionally features the return of Oscar-winning actor Joe Pesci from retirement, making a brief appearance. Since his exceptional performance in Martin Scorsese’s 2019 film “The Irishman,” this is Pesci’s first role in a feature film, and he was also part of Huston’s cast for that production as well.

Stepping into the realm of film criticism here, I must say that, in his directorial debut, Jack Huston delivers a compelling black-and-white tale titled Day of the Fight. This gripping narrative revolves around a once celebrated boxer, who finds himself wrestling with his past and present, as he prepares for his comeback fight, fresh out of prison.

For the movie “Day of the Fight,” the production team comprises Huston, Emma Tillinger Koskoff – known for producing “The Irishman” and both versions of “Joker,” as well as Josh Porter, Jai Stefan, and Colleen Camp. Huston was visibly thrilled about the upcoming theater premiere, expressing his enthusiasm:

“I am deeply grateful to finally see Day of the Fight hit the big screen this fall. My aim was to create something authentic and relatable that delves into the intricacies of life, posing the timeless question: How much are we prepared to sacrifice for those we cherish? I was fortunate enough to collaborate with an exceptional cast who breathed vibrant life into these characters, particularly Michael C. Pitt whose heartrending portrayal serves as the emotional backbone.”

Could Day of the Fight Find Awards Glory?

Falling Forward Films has secured the distribution rights for “Day of the Fight,” and their studio is actively working on an awards campaign for this drama. Previously successful PR firm Perception PR has been enlisted to collaborate on the film’s distribution, having previously assisted Neon in guiding “Parasite” towards its Academy Award win. Falling Forward Films CEO Scott Kennedy recently discussed their partnership with Productivity Media to bring this film to a global audience.

“We’re thrilled to announce that Jack Huston’s exceptional new film is now available! Join us as William Santor, Productivity Media, and Falling Forward Films present this extraordinary cinematic masterpiece. We invite you all to witness this incredible movie, a must-see in the world of films!”

Last year at the Venice Film Festival, Huston made his debut with a film that’s been highly anticipated for awards season. With previous roles in shows like ‘Boardwalk Empire’, ‘Silver Linings Playbook’, and most recently, ‘Mayfair Witches’, Huston isn’t new to the acting world. His family background is deeply rooted in Hollywood, with three Oscar winners among them. Following its initial release, ‘Day of the Fight’ was exhibited at various festivals such as Mill Valley, SCAD, Newport Beach, and Austin, where it received critical acclaim.

Following a lack of sufficient time for an adequate presentation and buildup, the initial release date for the movie has been changed to a global premiere in 2024. The film is anticipated to draw attention from various awards such as Gotham and Spirit Awards for categories including directing, cinematography, and the lead actor’s performance (Brad Pitt). A bid for an Academy Award isn’t far-fetched, considering that independent films like Whale Rider, The Messenger, Monster, The Visitor, and Maria Full of Grace have earned nominations following their global release, along with recent small indie film Ghostlight, which has been creating a buzz as “movie of the year” contender.
