Jackie Chan Dislocated His Shoulder (& Popped It Back In) During One Karate Kid: Legends Fight Scene

Director Jonathan Entwistle unveils that during a fight scene, action star Jackie Chan managed to dislocate his shoulder. Remarkably, he was able to put it back into place all on his own.

In a recent chat with CinemaBlend, director Entwistle shared that during the filming of Mr. Han’s kitchen fight scene in the movie, Chan suffered a shoulder dislocation. Remarkably, the 71-year-old actor didn’t skip a heartbeat! He quickly readjusted his shoulder and was right back on set to continue with the action. You can find Entwistle’s account of the incident below:

In the kitchen brawl, he popped his shoulder out of joint on the very first object we collided with, and then he casually readjusted it himself, saying something like ‘pop’, before declaring, ‘Alright, let’s move on.’ I was left astonished, remarking, ‘It seems Jackie Chan just dropped by. I must have forgotten.’

Experiencing it was truly cinematic, watching him perform live and feeling as if we were watching a movie scene unfold. The sensation was reminiscent of when Jackie Chan would surprise us with his moves, like ‘Wow, Jackie’s doing something.’ There were some incredible scenes where Ben seemed to be in constant motion, blocking, blocking, block [with Jackie Chan]. Watching him perform on this Sunset rooftop made me feel like we were creating movies. It was a truly unique and memorable experience.

From the get-go, I was determined that with Jackie Chan taking on Mr. Han’s role, we would sprinkle some of Jackie Chan’s unique flair into every aspect of our production. For me, it was crucial from the start that the fights were not only thrilling and enjoyable, but also had something special about them. And so, right from the beginning, I thought, “I want the Hong Kong wire work team.” I believe this is a truly engaging spectacle for audiences, as they will witness a distinctive type of fight sequence. There are no visual effects enhancing the fights; it’s all captured in-camera.
