Let me clarify that, contrary to some expectations, James Bond will not be appearing in films scheduled for 2025. If Martin Campbell’s predictions hold true, the release of James Bond 26 might be quite distant. In fact, based on his recent comments, it seems that Bond could potentially set a new record for his longest cinematic hiatus since the fall of the Berlin Wall. However, amidst all the speculation, there’s a hint of optimism to be found.
Bond 26 May Break The Record For Longest 007 Wait, According To Martin Campbell
In an interview with Men’s Journal about his latest project, “Cleaner” starring Daisy Ridley, there was discussion regarding the possibility of the director who revitalized James Bond twice considering another go at the helm.
As a devoted fan, I’ve been pondering about when we might get the chance to witness the 26th James Bond film, considering Mr. Campbell, who directed ‘Goldeneye’ in 1995 and ‘Casino Royale’ in 2006, is involved. However, it seems there’s a partial connection to the reported disputes between Amazon-MGM Studios and EON Productions, as I understand from recent news.
Is there a plan for another James Bond film? That’s the topic at hand. Currently, there is a legal issue ongoing, and now there’s also the hurdle with Amazon. It’s quite ironic, as both situations seem similar. Time will tell how it unfolds. Moreover, the selection of the director will be made by Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson, who are renowned producers. I believe we might have to wait two or three more years for the next Bond film.
We’ve moved far beyond the point of “shaken, not stirred” in this situation, if I may borrow a phrase with a twist. To put it more dramatically, Martin Campbell’s assertions have left quite an impact on James Bond fans, much like a powerful Thunderball. If his prediction is accurate, the next installment of 007, following 2021’s “No Time to Die,” might hit the big screen in either 2027 or 2028. This would mean that we could potentially beat the record for the longest delay between films, set by the gap between 1989’s “License to Kill” and 1995’s “Goldeneye,” by approximately a year on the later end of this timeframe.
It appears that the delays might be stemming from two main directions. The most noticeable issue seems to be a rumored dispute between producer Barbara Broccoli and her studio partner. However, another significant obstacle is the legal matter brought up by the director of “The Mask of Zorro,” which could potentially question James Bond’s copyright in the UK and Europe.
Although the strained relationship between Amazon-MGM and EON might not be a problem itself, this possible legal dispute could extend the delay further. While it doesn’t necessarily offer a positive outlook, given my unconventional nature, you may view this as an opportunity for something unexpected to happen.

James Bond Will (Not) Return Through Streaming
Behind the scenes, one major source of potential conflicts has revolved around the proposed tone for Bond 26. It’s rumored that Amazon-MGM Studios is aiming for content that appeals to memes, which coincides with another contentious issue: whether the 007 franchise should continue as a strictly cinematic experience or if there’s an opportunity for streaming projects to broaden its scope.
Here, Martin Campbell holds a more positive outlook, as he echoed the official stance at EON Productions in this manner:
Barbara is firm in her decision that this will be a theatrical experience, not released straight to streaming platforms. After all, a Bond movie is meant to be an event, not just another streaming title. It’s exciting whenever a new Bond film arrives!
Apart from concurring with the comments made by the director of “No Escape,” I believe he holds a unique position to voice his opinions, given his status outside of the EON headquarters. Campbell is responsible for introducing Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig’s interpretations of 007, and these debut performances are still widely acknowledged as some of the most impressive in the series.
Martin Campbell, with his expertise in creating engaging James Bond stories and knowledge of EON Productions’ guidelines, seems perfectly suited for the director role of Bond 26. His past interviews indicate he’d be an ideal candidate to start working immediately once the project gets the go-ahead.
