As a lifelong DC fanatic, born into the golden age of comic books and raised on the silver screen adaptations that followed, I eagerly await James Gunn’s vision for the ever-evolving DC Universe. With each cryptic clue he drops, I can feel the anticipation building like a supervillain’s final monologue before the climactic battle.
In anticipation for upcoming DC films and James Gunn shaping the expansive universe of DC heroes, he’s been subtly hinting about potential characters or events in the future. Recently on Threads, it seems he confirmed that Deathstroke will play a role in this new chapter of the DC Universe.
Months following rumors of a film featuring Bane and Deathstroke, as reported earlier, Gunn indeed confirmed that the infamous villain will play a role in his vision for the DC universe on screen. In response to a fan’s query about Deathstroke’s potential involvement in the DC Universe and any plans for him, Gunn shared his thoughts, which can be found below:
Yes and yes.
As a devoted fan, it’s important to acknowledge that Gunn didn’t address the speculations surrounding a Bane/Deathstroke movie. However, what we can confirm is that one of these formidable characters is slated for an upcoming DC escapade. The question on my mind now is: Which DC hero will he square off against?
Will Deathstroke Be The Batman Villain For The Brave And The Bold?
It’ll take some time until “The Brave And The Bold” is released, primarily because “The Batman: Part II” hasn’t been completed yet and the script for it needs to be finalized. However, I can’t help but speculate if Deathstroke will make an appearance as the antagonist in this film, given that it’s centered around Batman and Robin. Yet, I’m not certain if Damian Wayne’s Robin shares the same rivalry with Deathstroke that another Robin has had in the past. This brings me to my next question…
There Are Other Superheroes That Deathstroke Has Tussled With
As a millennial nerd, it’s clear to me that Deathstroke is a villain who has crossed paths with more heroes than just Batman. I vividly remember watching Teen Titans growing up, where Robin, played by Dick Grayson, frequently faced off against him. And like many other fans of Arrow, I was frustrated when the studio refused to allow the show to include Deathstroke in its storylines after Season 6.
Deathstroke can appear as a villain in various scenarios and with different heroes, so it’s not necessarily that James Gunn will team him up with the most obvious hero. Given Joe Manganiello’s recent commitment to playing a key role in Netflix’s “One Piece,” it seems less likely he will get another chance to portray Deathstroke in the new universe.
I’m definitely looking forward to James Gunn’s DCU officially starting, and luckily for us, the debut of “Creature Commandos” is approaching in December. If you have a Max subscription, you’ll be able to catch a glimpse of what this universe will offer quite soon.
Unfortunately, figuring out the specific plans for Deathstroke within the DC Universe might take some time. In the meantime, hold tight and keep enjoying TopMob, since our team is brimming with excitement to see what unfolds in the superhero world. We’ll share updates as soon as we get them.
