James Gunn isn’t in a rush to find the next Wonder Woman.
The director of Superman has disclosed that he’s not actively conducting auditions for his Wonder Woman film, clarifying this during his response to fan speculation on Threads. Gunn clarified that he isn’t currently talking about potential actors for the movie or even thinking about it, until a script is completed.
He similarly refuted rumors suggesting that DC Studios is exclusively seeking an actress who has primarily worked on television, similar to Milly Alcock of Supergirl, for the main character’s part.
He stated, ‘Absolutely not. I wouldn’t consider a leading role based on their background in television, movies, or anything else.’ For him, it’s always about the audition process and finding the right fit, which is referred to as ‘casting.’
As a fervent admirer, I can’t help but share some exciting insights about the forthcoming Wonder Woman film. Contrary to certain speculations circulating, the visionary director of the Guardians of the Galaxy has addressed the notion that the project is being hurriedly advanced, as per various reports.
He emphasized it’s important, yet not extremely urgent; he doesn’t use the term ‘fast-tracked.’ He clarified that nothing will be filmed unless we’re confident the script is top-notch.
More recently, Gunn shared insights into the selection process for the Superman part. In the end, David Corenswet was chosen for the lead, although it’s worth noting that Nicholas Hoult (who portrayed Lex Luthor) had also tried out for the iconic role of Superman.
Nick Hoult tried out for the part of Superman, and while he’s an outstanding actor, he wasn’t quite right for the role according to Gunn. Some people might even argue that Hoult exceeds David in certain aspects, but ultimately, he was too controlled for the character, which is why he didn’t land the part.
One factor that convinced Gunn about Corenswet’s suitability for the role of Superman was his chemistry test with Rachel Brosnahan, who portrays Lois Lane.
During the audition process, we occasionally paired Lois and Clark together to see their interactions. I wanted to ensure we found the right chemistry between them. David had a stronger chemistry with Rachel because she’s an actor who maintains control, while David is more spontaneous. This difference results in a unique energy on screen.
