Jamie Campbell Bower, who brings Vecna/Henry Creel to life in Stranger Things, admits he’s ready for a change from portraying villains. As one of Netflix’s most impactful antagonists, Vecna has left an indelible mark on the fantasy horror series; however, Bower seems content with moving on after the show concludes with Season 5, expressing that playing these roles can be emotionally taxing: “It takes a toll on me.
At Orlando MegaCon 2025 (as reported by PEOPLE), I, the actor, confessed that while I’m not concerned with being stereotyped as a villain, I do find myself yearning for something new. In fact, I’ve had discussions about this very topic with my therapist. I’m genuinely eager to explore and embody characters that diverge from my current role in future projects.
In our current situation, he suggested, “It’s crucial that you set aside time for yourself when you work in the future.” I responded, “Admit it honestly, I don’t think I’ll be taking on another villain role anytime soon.
In Season 4 of “Stranger Things,” Bower appeared as Henry Creel, a patient in Dr. Brenner’s facility where Eleven first displayed her abilities. Over time, Creel transformed into Vecna, a highly powerful being resembling a deity from the Upside Down, capable of brutally murdering people after exposing them to traumatic memories they had experienced. In the fifth and final season of the show, Bower takes center stage, and like many others, he expressed his anticipation for the series finale.
It’s truly remarkable and an unforgettable experience for me to have joined the show starting from Season 4, and to be part of something that has been cherished by so many, including myself. However, I must admit that it’s time for me to retire my foam latex suit, and I bid a slippery goodbye with fondness.
‘Stranger Things’ Season 5 – What We Know So Far
Jamie Campbell Bower, among a select few cast members, shared that the upcoming fifth season of “Stranger Things” would be unlike anything we’ve witnessed before. He described it as “completely insane,” and our anticipation for the series finale is growing. At present, the final season is undergoing post-production, though there have been rumors suggesting a 2025 release date. However, Netflix has not yet confirmed an official announcement regarding the release of Season 5 this year.
In Season 5, we can expect the reappearance of characters such as Dr. Brenner, who seemingly met his end in Season 4, and Max, whose fate was left hanging after slipping into a coma at the close of Season 4. However, the return of other beloved characters remains uncertain, as there has been no clear confirmation or hints beyond an episode title teaser for Season 5.
In terms of structure, Stranger Things Season 5 is planned to have eight installments. As of now, it’s undecided whether these will be rolled out weekly or in segments. The creators, the Duffer Brothers, along with the cast members, have hinted at the length of each episode, describing them as “eight movies.” At this point, the directors for Season 5 haven’t been officially announced. However, it is confirmed that some episodes will be directed by the Duffers and Frank Darabont, who has emerged from retirement to contribute to the Netflix blockbuster series.
