In a surprising twist, the chilling character portrayed by Millie Bobby Brown in Stranger Things as Vecna, once made a brief appearance in the Harry Potter universe. Specifically, Millie Bobby Brown, or David Bower as credited in the film, played a young Gellert Grindelwald, a dark wizard who shares a past with Albus Dumbledore, Hogwarts’ headmaster. In an interview at Como Fan Event (via ET Online), Bower shared that his role could have been significantly reduced if he had accepted director David Yates’ offer for a stunt double to perform in the scene instead.
For the Stranger Things actor, taking on Grindelwald’s role even briefly was an exciting moment, though he felt compelled to execute his own stunt because if not, it might have effectively eliminated him from the film. In a conversation about this choice, Bower explained:
“It was thrilling to step into Grindelwald’s shoes for a brief flashback scene, but I had no intention of letting go of the opportunity by having someone else perform my stunts. Otherwise, I would have essentially vanished from the movie.
In a different context, here’s how you could rephrase that: “During Harry Potter, I had many friends. At some point, someone asked if I wanted to join the movie, to which I agreed, as it sounded enjoyable and exciting. In Deathly Hallows, the only time I appear is when I snatch the Elder Wand and leap out of a window.
During the filming of that particular scene, which was my only day on set, director David Yates approached me and asked, “Would you consider having a stunt double?” To which I replied, “David, if there’s a stunt double, then I won’t be in your movie. I want to be a part of this film, for goodness sake.
Jamie Campbell Bower Has Become an Iconic Villain in ‘Stranger Things’
Although he made a brief return as Grindelwald in the “Fantastic Beasts” series, Bower has taken on a more sinister and significant villain role as Vecna in Netflix’s “Stranger Things”. With the new season just around the corner, viewers are eagerly waiting to see how this popular horror fantasy show will end.
Previously, Bower playfully hinted at his character’s involvement in the fifth season of the series, suggesting that Hawkins might encounter a far deadlier variant of Vecna compared to the one vanquished in Season 4. Regarding his comeback, he commented:
“I can’t reveal too much, but let’s just say that things are going to get really intense for our characters as we face a more menacing version of Vecna than ever before.
He’s definitely angry, perhaps even furious. I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s regrouping and planning his next move. He seems determined and ready for a fight. It’s clear now that you’ve provoked him, much like Jason Voorhees in the movies – you’ve made a grave error.
Although details about the ending of Stranger Things in Season 5 remain scarce, the creators, the Duffer Brothers, have hinted that while the finale will be larger and more spectacular, it won’t surpass the grandeur of Season 4’s epic conclusion, which was longer than many feature films. Nevertheless, cast members suggest that the final season will maintain a cinematic quality. With Vecna poised to unleash chaos in Hawkins, viewers are eagerly anticipating this dramatic conclusion.
