Despite the chilling day in a humorous underworld of comics when fans might forget the disappointing film “Morbius” directed by Daniel Espinosa in 2022, Jared Leto’s acting wasn’t the most problematic aspect of it. In fact, his performance was more controlled than during his time as the tattooed Joker for DC. Currently, there are rumors swirling that the star of “House of Gucci” is being considered for another comic-based role in Marvel, sparking a wave of speculative discussions.
Fans eagerly anticipate how Jared Leto performs in Disney’s sequel “Tron: Ares” and as Skeletor in “Masters of the Universe”. Now, we can speculate on the credibility of an industry insider’s report suggesting that Leto is discussing potential Marvel roles, excluding Ghost Rider. Given my preference, here are some Marvel characters I’d be thrilled to see Leto bring to life in a future MCU film or TV show, along with three roles that I hope never materialize.
Would Love: Deathlok
Over time, different versions of Deathlok have emerged in the comic book world, but the fundamental origin story by Rich Buckler remains largely untouched: He’s a soldier from the United States who met his end in battle and was later reborn as a formidable cyborg, equipped with an artificially intelligent computer system.
Previously, Leto has embodied a character who excessively outspends himself in the film “Mr. Nobody“, and showcased a tech-savvy persona in “Blade Runner 2049“. This experience seems to prepare him well for portraying Deathlok in the MCU with an intensified, super-intelligent flair. I’m excited about the prospect of Leto taking on the role of a hyper-brilliant Universal Soldier in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Would Protest: Any Kind Of Revamped Take On Kang
As a devoted fan, I’ve been closely following the developments surrounding Jonathan Majors and his portrayal of Kang in various Marvel projects. The legal issues behind the scenes have unexpectedly put a halt to plans to fully expand that character into the multiversal villain he is known for in lore. There are still whispers about Majors’ potential return, but I doubt we’ll see his Lovecraft Country character reprise the role after Loki Season 2. However, it wouldn’t shock me if Marvel Studios, led by Kevin Feige and his team, decided to take the “recast and rewrite” approach instead.
Initially, I wasn’t entirely opposed to the concept of Jared Leto as a time-traveling conqueror, but learning he was stepping into the role midway left me yearning for a drink in the Quantum Realm (due to the mini headaches that might follow).

Would Love: Sleepwalker
As a movie enthusiast, I fondly remember the ’90s and one of the most intriguing superheroes to emerge from that era was Sleepwalker, a brainchild of Bob Budiansky and Bret Blevins. This character’s dream-centric alien nature made him unique in the comic book scene. Though he might not be an immediate pick for an MCU hero, I can’t help but yearn to see his fear-inducing heroics translated into live-action adventures.
Now, picture Jared Leto in this role. With his ability to embody dark and peculiar characters effortlessly, he would undoubtedly bring the right amount of quirkiness and intensity to Sleepwalker that I envision for a matured version of Rick Sheridan’s college-bound alter ego.
Regarding Moon Knight’s connections, I believe an appealing Sleepwalker concept for a Disney+ series would involve blending dreams and reality, much like FX’s Marvel series Legion does.
Alternatively, if the project were to unfold without Jared Leto in the lead role, he could potentially take on the character of Nightmare instead.

Would Protest: The REAL Victor Von Doom
In many Marvel stories, characters’ true identities can change unexpectedly, as seen in “Iron Man 3” with the Mandarin twist, a decision that Kevin Feige continues to support. Consequently, I anticipate that Robert Downey Jr.’s portrayal of Doctor Doom in the Russo brothers’ “Avengers: Doomsday” could involve a surprise switch or twist in his character.
Although there are methods to lend intrigue and significance to that scenario, it’s crucial not to depict Jared Leto as a hidden manipulator behind the scenes, possessing the power to change his appearance into anyone else’s likeness, with Tony Stark being among his transformations. Additionally, I strongly advise against having “A Beautiful Lie” by Thirty Seconds To Mars playing during that sequence if it ever materializes.

Would Love: Blackheart
After numerous instances where Blackheart was mentioned in speculative discussions within Agatha All Along, it turned out that Aubrey Plaza’s character was someone else entirely. Given this recurring pattern, I believe Marvel fans are overdue for a live-action portrayal of the demonic hellspawn. Strangely enough, I find Jared Leto an intriguing choice to embody such a character straight from Hell.
I can’t help but share my excitement about the prospect of Blackheart joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), given Mephisto’s involvement. The anticipation for his arrival seems to be building with the upcoming series, “Ironheart,” scheduled for 2025 on TV in June. Rumors suggest that Sasha Baron Cohen might be playing the demon. However, if these rumors don’t pan out, it could be that Jared Leto’s Blackheart was the key element we’ve been missing all along.

Would Protest: Magneto
Enthusiasm for the upcoming Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) X-Men film is running high following the popularity of X-Men ’97 among both longtime fans and newcomers. As a fresh group of mutants is introduced, so too will be a new round of casting choices, encompassing both heroic characters and potential villains yet to be determined.
It’s hard to envision an X-Men film without Magneto’s involvement, as both Ian McKellen and Michael Fassbender delivered memorable performances in the Fox series. Jared Leto might be suitable for a mature role in such a project, but I don’t want to see Magneto with tattoos like “Repellant” and “Attractive” on his face. There are other talented actors out there who could play Magneto instead.

Would Love: Fantomex
I enjoy Jared Leto’s performances when he portrays complex characters that are tough, unconventional, and sometimes sinister. If we’re discussing X-Men characters, I believe Leto would be an ideal choice for the live-action introduction of Fantomex. Although not as well-known as other Marvel characters, Fantomex is a unique figure created by Grant Morrison and Igor Kordey – he can heal quickly, manipulate reality, and shoot with precision thanks to his nanotech-infused body.
I’m unsure why I’m drawn to the idea of the actor from Requiem for a Dream playing a character who combines humanity with biotechnology, but he seems perfect for such roles, especially when he’s not portraying a vulnerable character. He seldom gets to play characters that embody pure confidence and badassery. I don’t automatically assume the Marvel Cinematic Universe will delve into the Weapon Plus Program at the same time as Charles Xavier’s students are introduced. However, it could happen someday…
