As a golf enthusiast with a keen eye for fashion, I must say that 2024 was a year of exciting changes in the world of golf wear, and Jason Day’s collaboration with Malbon certainly made waves. From the controversial catamaran-inspired outfit at the Wells Fargo Championship to the sold-out lavender Performance Line at the PGA Championship, it was clear that Jason wasn’t afraid to push boundaries.
You know golf is changing when one of the biggest stories from a major championship is ‘pro golfer asked to remove sweater vest by host club.’ Whether you’re a fan or Malbon Golf or not, it’s hard to argue that the brand’s marketing strategy was anything less than a rollicking success. All you have to do is search “Jason Day” on Google where related results include “Malbon Golf”, “Sweater”, “Sweater Vest” and “2024 Masters Tournament.”
On the second day of 2024, the company that originated from a modest storefront on Fairfax Avenue made a significant move, securing the endorsement of the former world number one golfer, Jason Day. Although not as dominant as he once was, the Australian has always been eager to experiment with style. Starting his career with adidas and signing with Nike in 2017, Day showcased a preference for Nike’s innovative golf footwear like the AJ1 Golf, causing a bit of stir among competitors.
In other words: The transition from Jason Day’s tight-fitting Nike quarter-zips to Stephen Malbon’s loose cardigans was quite noticeable. However, this change was essential, even if not all the outfits were universally loved. Regardless, with guidance from Stephen Malbon (the founder) and Luke Garner (the creative producer), Day managed to pull off numerous stylish looks throughout the season. Here are our top ten favorite ensembles he wore.
AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am – Round One
The Crosby Collection, a joint effort by Malbon, adidas, and the Crosby estate, was designed to replicate the ambiance of mid-century Palm Springs. Notably, Day sported the entire collection (except for shoes and hat) during the Pebble Beach Pro-Am. This selection was particularly apt since Crosby established the event in 1937. We found the yellow sweater’s netted stitch and chunky wool pants a striking combination.

Over and over, practice rounds have shown us some of Jason Day’s best outfits throughout the golf season, largely due to the PGA TOUR’s rule permitting shorts. The shorts’ design serves as a conversation starter, while the plain black polo simply accompanies it.
RBC Heritage – Round One
The design on this polo shirt matches the one from the shorts above, which was among Malbon’s top-selling items for the entire year. Day paired it with classic-fit chino pants, a braided belt, and his PAYNTR prototype shoes, but the AKILA sunglasses truly complete the look.
The Masters – Preview Day Two
At the Masters, while the Championship Vest grabbed all the attention, this green sweater is a hidden gem. To begin with, it won’t land you in trouble with the ANGC officials, but it certainly doesn’t lack style. The intricate intarsia knit design adds a touch of elegance, and the two hoops on the right arm introduce a subtle, asymmetrical twist.

Instead of sailing on a catamaran or participating in a professional golf tournament, the Aussie seemed as if he could have been Ben Hogan’s contemporary in the 1950s. However, his outfit caused quite a stir and was one of the most talked-about fits this year. Most importantly, we appreciate how relaxed and comfortable he looks.
THE PLAYERS Championship – Preview Day Two
In 2024, Jason sported a less flashy appearance, but upon closer inspection, his outfit was quite intricate. The loose-fitting plaid wool pants paired perfectly with the braided leather belt, creating a stylish harmony that caught our eye.
FedEx St. Jude Championship – Round Two
Later in the season, Day sported once more the white camp collar shirt he donned at THE PLAYERS event. On this occasion, Malbon dressed him in trousers without a belt, a fashion choice less common in golf but widely used in menswear. A nod to PAYNTR, Day’s shoe sponsor, as they equipped him with shoes that harmonized with the design (take note of the blue midsole).
2024 PGA Championship – Round Two
In a bid to surpass expectations, Malbon aimed to alter its reputation in the year 2024 by showcasing improved performance. Having an athlete participate in tournaments presented the ideal chance for this transformation. For this specific event, Day opted for a clean all-white ensemble, eschewing the conventional polo design in favor of a blade collar shirt featuring raglan sleeves.
The Genesis Invitational – Round Three
Almost everything that Malbon does receives approval from its followers, but the $400 USD price points of the Preserve Collection drew some questioning looks. In advance of its launch at the Genesis Invitational, Malbon had hinted at the collection, mirroring a trend in 2024, and the athletic aesthetic represented a shift.

Another practice round success, before the start of the PGA Championship Jason Day wore a matching windbreaker and drawstring shorts from the Malbon Performance Line, the brand’s first foray into activewear.
