Jason Isaacs Dodges Talking About “Double Standard” ‘White Lotus’ Nude Scene: “What Is the Obsession With Penises?”

The full-on display in the latest episode of “The White Lotus” has sparked a lot of conversation, but Jason Isaacs can’t fathom the reason behind it.

Last Friday, Isaac appeared on CBS Mornings with Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and Vladimir Duthiers to discuss season three of his HBO show. They inquired whether he employed a prosthetic for the naked scene.

Or, more concisely:
Last Friday, on CBS Mornings, Isaac discussed season 3 of his HBO series with Gayle King, Tony Dokoupil, and Vladimir Duthiers. They asked if he used a prosthetic for the nude scene.

Many individuals are discussing this topic extensively online, and Isaac mentioned that it’s intriguing due to the outstanding performance of the top actress… However, King promptly interrupted, stating that Isaac had yet to address the original question.

Speaking as a fan who’s been following the Oscars closely this year, I can’t help but notice an intriguing disparity. The exceptional talent displayed by Mikey Madison is undeniable and yet, no one seems to be discussing something quite prominent – her on-screen presence. In contrast, when we consider performances like Margaret Qualley’s in “The Substance,” there’s a striking absence of conversations revolving around her personal attributes, such as her physique or body parts. This double standard, I find, is quite peculiar and worth pondering upon. It’s fascinating how the discussion shifts when it comes to female nudity, with focus solely on the performance, while male actors are often subjected to discussions about their physical attributes along with their performances.

Dokoupil commented that Isaacs’ response was evasive, and Isaacs, known for his role in the “Harry Potter” series, countered by saying, “It’s evasive because I believe people aren’t truly interested in seeing behind-the-scenes.

He commented, ” frankly, I find it unusual when we have characters – some of whom are depicted nude in this setting – and it’d feel strange if you were present. You wouldn’t even consider talking about their private areas, not for a moment.

In the course of our discussion later on, Dokoupil mentioned he’d pose those questions to women if prosthetics were commonplace. “So, what’s your fascination?” I joked, then followed up with, “Mike White is a phenomenal writer; it’s been ages since a TV series has been this good. And why the fixation on penises? It seems peculiar.

Earlier this week, Sam Nivola and Sarah Catherine Hook, actors from Isaacs’ TV show, revealed that Isaacs had indeed employed a fake body part during filming. Hook shared her amusement at the situation, adding that Isaacs seemed thrilled about it and appeared to take great care in using the prosthetic. She even commented on how well he handled the prop.
