Jason Momoa and Jack Black Think the World Needs ‘A Minecraft Movie’ Right Now: “So Much War and Hatred … We’ve Got to Work Together”

Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge and Danielle Brooks have hit play on A Minecraft Movie.

On a bright, sun-kissed spring day in London’s Leicester Square, the main actors, along with Emma Myers and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, graced the event at the world premiere of the film. The lush green carpet leading up to the Cineworld theater was their red carpet.

Or,

Under the radiant spring sun in London’s Leicester Square, the main actors, together with Emma Myers and Sebastian Eugene Hansen, made an appearance at the world premiere of our film on Sunday. The verdant green carpet before the Cineworld theater served as their red carpet.

The film, sharing its title with the video game, revolves around four oddball characters who are all of a sudden transported through a strange portal into a peculiar, cube-shaped realm that flourishes on creativity. To return home, they must adapt to their new environment’s idiosyncrasies and venture on an unforeseen journey with a skilled artisan, as Black takes on the role of the renowned character Steve.

At the premiere, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Momoa and Black, who both expressed their belief that the world needs a “Minecraft Movie” at this very moment. Jason Momoa added, “What the world needs now is love, sweet love,” quoting Burt Bacharach’s 1965 classic. He continued, “With all the violence, war, and hatred in the world today, it’s essential that we come together. That’s what I adore about this movie – it’s full of love, creativity, and there are moments of anger and conflict, but ultimately it’s about friendship and unity to create a better world.

Black went on, showering praise on director Jared Hess and his talented cast: “Jared’s creativity is immense, and his vision is truly unique. This cast was exceptional, from the top to the bottom. You have Jason Momoa, who alone makes it worth seeing. There’s Danielle Brooks, who is exceptional. Emma Myers is fantastic too. Then there’s this newcomer [Hansen], who is brilliant. But wait, there’s more! You wouldn’t expect Jennifer Coolidge to be in the mix!

Momoa, known for his role in “Aquaman”, shared similar thoughts with Black. He stated to THR, “I believe everyone needs a break right now.” He added, “It’s wonderful to unwind and enjoy a thrilling journey filled with laughter.” Jokingly, he commented on working with Black, saying, “I never want to make another movie with him. It was terrible. He’s a sham, a fraud… No, I mean he exceeds expectations. He’s more than one could hope for.

When asked about a potential sequel for the Minecraft movie, Momoa expressed his hope that they would get another chance: “We won’t disappoint you. We put in a lot of effort to create this world, and I believe it will captivate everyone. There are so many stories left untold; I just pray that fans will be thrilled and allow us to continue.

Brooks confessed that she doesn’t play Minecraft. “I do try,” she said on the red carpet. “I am both an observer and a player… I have a five-year-old daughter, and I feel like there will come a time because she’s now into Minecraft – so her mommy can join in!

Brooks admitted he didn’t spend his childhood engrossed in games, which he regrets. We only dabbled with a snowboarding game and racing game, but we never experienced classics like ‘Mario Bros.’. The most delightful aspect of this film is its ability to awaken our inner child within us.

As a fresh-faced gamer stepping onto the game set for the first time, I never thought I’d make the cut. But when I saw the script and got a feel for the virtual world, I knew I was in it up to my pixelated elbows. The veterans of this gaming universe taught me an important lesson: having fun is the cornerstone of success here.

As a fervent admirer, I’m thrilled to share that Cale Boyter, the producer, expressed his enthusiasm for A Minecraft Movie, stating, “It will rejuvenate your spirit and make you feel young once more.” In my perspective, it’s a breathtakingly enchanting prospect to momentarily detach from reality, immerse oneself in this virtual realm, and engage in activities that are otherwise unattainable in our everyday lives.

A Minecraft Movie will be released in theaters on Friday, April 4.
