Jason Momoa’s Lobo Look Nearly Revealed, James Gunn’s Funny Response

Among the many exciting developments in James Gunn’s new DC Universe lineup of upcoming superhero films, the news about Jason Momoa playing Lobo in Craig Gillespie’s “Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow” has fans particularly thrilled. Casting the ex-Aquaman actor as this interstellar tough guy was already a stunning announcement, and fans can hardly wait to see his portrayal of the character. A glimpse at Lobo almost came early when Momoa almost revealed his look on TopMob. Following that, Gunn responded humorously to this near-revelation.

TopMob spoke with Jason Momoa and Jack Black at the Minecraft Movie press junket. It was there that Momoa—clearly amped about his upcoming DC role—very nearly unveiled a sneak peek at his Lobo design via his phone before being shut down by a publicist. The Superman director and co-DCU architect has now chimed in with a perfectly timed Instagram story post, which saw him share a bit of gratitude to the A-lister’s publicist:

That’s the most James Gunn response I could have imagined. I mean, talk about on brand.

In addition, the almost unveiling of Lobo’s film appearance left fans ecstatic, but for me, it was Jack Black who absolutely stole the spotlight in the video. Sitting next to his fellow actor during the Minecraft press conference, Black couldn’t help but inject his signature zany flair—mispronouncing “Lobo” in true Jack Black fashion and suggesting himself for a role in Supergirl. This impromptu moment of hilarity was priceless and, to be honest, we now find ourselves yearning to see him appear in the DC Universe—even if it’s just for a one-time shoutout of “Loooobooo”. Here’s a sneak peek of our interview:

It’s possible that Black’s suggestion for a cameo in the Supergirl movie was more of a jest, but given his past near-casting as Green Lantern and his comedic talents shown in films like School of Rock, having him in an upcoming DC film isn’t entirely implausible. He might fit the DC Universe well, perhaps as a quirky side character, a humorous villain, or a unique one-time role.

Dear James Gunn, should you be perusing this message, your cosmic ensemble is truly outstanding as it stands. However, there’s always room for more talent, and perhaps the charisma of the Tenacious D fellow could add an extra layer of excitement? Let’s find a spot for that energetic performer!

For those unaware, Lobo – DC Comics’ profane, cigar-smoking alien bounty hunter from Czarnia – is both feared and adored for his brutality. He’s the type of antihero who stirs up trouble, leaves a path of shattered bones and unpaid bar tabs in his wake. If there’s an actor capable of embodying such raw energy, it would be Jason Momoa. His combination of physicality, charm, and carefree spirit seems tailor-made for the role, fitting Lobo like a black leather glove.

We haven’t seen the visual unveiling just now (thanks a bunch, publicists!), but the excitement surrounding the character appears to be escalating as planned by Gunn and DC – sans spoilers. Furthermore, if Jason Momoa’s eagerness is any indication, he’s on track to share something that will undoubtedly shatter the internet upon the release of the first image.
