Will ‘The Expendables 5’ Ever Happen?

Despite the impressive lineup of action stars in Expendables 4 (and the series as a whole), it’s surprising that it didn’t live up to expectations. However, despite these promising elements, the film seems to fall short. This is a sentiment shared by critics, as Expendables 4 received a rating of only 14% on Rotten Tomatoes.

The critique states that even though Jason Statham delivered a strong performance and there were some decent action sequences, these aspects could not overcome Expendables 4‘ subpar action and noticeably low-budget visual effects. Although the audience seemed to appreciate more elements (scoring 70% on the Popcornmeter), unfortunately, few people went to see the movie in theaters. As a result, The Expendables 4 became the lowest-earning film in the series, bringing in only $51.1 million compared to its $100 million production budget.

Even though Jason Statham’s popularity continues to soar, there remains a glimmer of hope that “The Expendables” could return in a fifth installment. This is a dream that his fellow cast member, Randy Couture, seems to share, as the former UFC champion hinted at some discussions taking place behind the scenes. Interestingly, Couture mentioned that he’d love Guy Ritchie, director of “Wrath of Man,” to helm the project if it moves forward.
