Jason Statham Reprises the Role of Iconic Action Hero The Transporter…with a Twist

As a die-hard fan of action cinema, I must say it’s always a thrill to see Jason Statham back in action, especially when he’s donning the suit of Frank Martin once more. The man is like fine wine; he only gets better with age!

In a surprising twist, Action icon revisits one of his favorite roles, deviating from our usual expectations (or preferred scenarios). The actor known for his role as The Beekeeper takes on Frank Martin again in a fresh campaign for Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Known as The Statham, he dons one of Martin’s suits to highlight the new Transporter model. The ad proclaims “The Transporter is back,” then unveils Statham reprising his character alongside the vehicle that bears the same name as his former action series franchise.

We’re extremely excited to announce that Jason Statham is the star of our latest campaign,” expressed Sandra Waidelich, Head of Sales & Marketing Experience at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles. Further ads featuring Statham reprising his role as Frank Martin are on the way, implying that the action star may engage in high-speed pursuits reminiscent of a Transporter series while driving a VWCV vehicle. You can watch the new ad with Jason Statham back at the wheel as The Transporter’s Frank Martin below.

The “Transporter” film series kicked off in the year 2002, introducing Jason Statham as Frank Martin, a former soldier turned mercenary driver based in France who gets entangled in a human trafficking scheme. This movie franchise went on to produce two sequels: “Transporter 2,” released in 2005, and “Transporter 3” from 2008. After that, Statham chose to step away, leading the series to be rebooted. The initial reboot was a TV show starring Chris Vance, who is known for his role in Bosch. Later, in 2015, there was a movie titled “The Transporter Refueled,” with Ed Skrein from Deadpool taking on the lead role.

Though fans are still eager for Statham’s comeback in The Transporter, the actor himself explained his exit from the series during an interview with Vulture in April 2015. He stated that the studio requested him to commit to making three more films without first reviewing a script, which was not something he found acceptable.

Jason Statham Fans Are Buzzing for The Beekeeper 2

Despite Statham no longer driving as The Transporter in a sequel, it might not make much difference since the action star has possibly initiated a new franchise with this year’s film. The action-packed thriller places Statham in familiar territory as Adam Clay, a man who, after his beloved friend is swindled, abandons his peaceful beekeeping lifestyle to seek revenge violently. Interestingly, it turns out that Clay was once an undercover agent for a clandestine organization called the Beekeepers, which adds another layer of intrigue to the narrative.

The outing turned out to be an unexpected blockbuster this year, earning $152.7 million globally at the box office. This places it among Jason Statham’s most successful solo films so far, and garnered a favorable 71% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Although no sequel has been officially announced yet, director David Ayer has hinted about potential aspects of The Beekeeper 2.

“I find the lore surrounding beekeepers intriguing. We’ve had a glimpse into their world, but I’m eager to learn more – who they are, where they originated, and what their future holds. And I can’t help but wonder about Jason’s origins as well. There seems to be so much more to discover in this realm, and collaborating with Jason again presents another exciting opportunity.
