There was anticipation that Marc Webb’s version of Snow White might boost ticket sales during a lackluster week at the box office in March 2025. However, audiences didn’t flock to films like Bong Joon Ho’s Mickey 17 and Dan Berk and Robert Olsen’s Novocaine as much as expected, leading to hope that a high-profile franchise release could help revive the market. As previously reported on Sunday, the Disney remake indeed took the number one spot domestically… but a week later, things have returned to usual.
In this week’s shift, the number one spot on the charts has been seized by David Ayer’s film “A Working Man,” featuring Jason Statham, as Snow White experienced a significant drop in viewership from weekend to weekend. You can find the detailed results in the table provided, and let’s delve into the analysis together afterward.
A Working Man Puts Up Beekeeper-Esque Numbers To Win The Box Office
As we edge closer to the debut of “A Working Man“, it seems quite fitting to draw parallels with next year’s release, “The Beekeeper“. Both movies share similarities such as Jason Statham in the role of a skilled fighter and David Ayer directing. Analyzing these two titles together feels like a natural way to discuss the upcoming film – I even made this comparison in my TopMob review of “The Working Man“. Given that both films have had nearly identical opening weekends, it seems appropriate to make this comparison once again today.
Last January, the movie “The Beekeeper” debuted but was surpassed in box office success by Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr.’s adaptation of “Mean Girls,” earning $16.6 million. Fast-forwarding to 15 months later, “The Working Man” has managed to achieve comparable sales figures with a gross income of $15.2 million (according to The Numbers). Although the earnings are less, it boasts the prestige of securing the top spot in the box office rankings.
The film is rapidly approaching profitability as well, given that its domestic box office earnings have been mirrored by foreign markets, totaling $30.2 million in the past three days. However, it may struggle to sustain long-term success due to its March release compared to “The Beekeeper’s” January debut. Nonetheless, if it manages to complete its global run with a final gross comparable to last year’s blockbuster’s $152.4 million, there is no doubt that the upcoming 2025 movie will be a resounding success.

In simpler terms, Jason Statham’s roles in the last two films have demonstrated they can recover from setbacks, as he was a key player in the less-than-successful Scott Waugh’s “Expend4bles” of 2023 (which earned $51.1 million globally, a stark contrast to the $209.5 million made by other films in the franchise). However, his performances have proven he can still attract audiences following this disappointment.
In general, critics haven’t given a particularly favorable review to the movie “A Working Man,” but audiences seem to be finding it entertaining. The film is an adaptation of the book “Levon’s Trade” by Chuck Dixon, with Sylvester Stallone and David Ayer sharing co-writing credits. Interestingly, CinemaScore surveys have given the movie a “B” grade, which is slightly lower than the “B+” that “The Beekeeper” received in 2025.
The movie “A Working Man” concludes with loose ends that could potentially lead to a sequel. Given its box office performance this weekend, it’s entirely possible we might see a continuation of the story.
Snow White Suffers A Rough 66 Percent Weekend-To-Weekend Drop Domestically Following Its Debut
In my recent movie review published on Sunday, I mentioned that the performance of Snow White in cinemas has been quite comparable to the live-action Disney remakes released after the pandemic. It surpassed both Craig Gillespie’s Cruella ($21.5 million) and Barry Jenkins’ The Lion King (Mufasa: The Lion King, $35.4 million). However, it didn’t come close to Rob Marshall’s The Little Mermaid’s earnings ($95.6 million). What set those movies apart as successes was their longevity in theaters… and this puts the 2025 feature at a significant disadvantage because of that.
In its first weekend, Snow White earned approximately $42.2 million, placing it as the second-highest opening weekend of 2025 so far, trailing only Julius Onah’s Captain America: Brave New World with its impressive $88.8 million debut. However, ticket sales have seen a significant drop of around 66%, with an additional $14.2 million earned since Friday, bringing the domestic total to $66.8 million. The film, featuring Rachel Zegler and Gal Gadot, is currently about $31 million behind Peter Hastings’ Dog Man as the second highest-grossing movie of the year.
In terms of comparisons within the same franchise, The Little Mermaid dropped by 57% from one weekend to the next. Cruella experienced a 49% decrease in ticket sales, while Mufasa: The Lion King managed to increase its earnings by 4% during its second Friday-to-Sunday last December. Considering this trend, it’s possible that Snow White might not exceed $100-$150 million domestically, which is disappointing given the reported budget of $270 million (excluding marketing and publicity expenses).
Globally, the movie “Snow White” has earned a total of $143.1 million, placing it in the top 5 highest-grossing films. Following it are “Captain America: Brave New World” in third position with earnings of $405.8 million, and the remaining top spots are occupied by Chinese productions: Zi Jiao’s “Ne Zha 2,” which made a staggering $1.8 billion, Mo Dai’s “Tang Tan 1900” with earnings of $473.8 million, and Ershan Wu’s “Creation of the Gods II: Demonic Confrontation,” earning $154.4 million.
Starting in April, we’re optimistic that domestic box office earnings will increase, with Jared Hess’ film adaptation of the widely popular video game, “A Minecraft Movie,” leading the charge. Featuring stars such as Jason Momoa, Jack Black, Jennifer Coolidge, Danielle Brooks, and others, keep an eye out for updates on its performance and potential impact on the Top 10 charts here at TopMob. The success of films like “The Super Mario Bros. Movie” by Aaron Horvath and Michael Jelenic, as well as Jeff Fowler’s “Sonic The Hedgehog” series, has set high expectations, so it will be interesting to see if this new film can match those numbers.
