As a dedicated follower of the enchanting world of Indian cinema, I must say that Angry Young Men, now streaming on Prime Video, has truly been a captivating journey. The series delves deep into the lives of legends like Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar, offering a rare glimpse into their personal lives and career triumphs.
The latest documentary series titled “Angry Young Men,” available for streaming on Prime Video, focuses on the eminent screenwriters Salim Khan and Javed Akhtar. Over three episodes, it explores their impressive careers, family relationships, and personal histories. Notably, Javed Akhtar shares insights about his initial marriage to Honey Irani, expressing remorse over its conclusion and taking responsibility for its breakdown.
In the third episode of the documentary series, Akhtar openly discussed the breakdown of his first marriage, confessing that Honey Irani is the individual he feels most guilty towards. He stated, “I believe around 60 to 70% responsibility falls on my shoulders for the collapse of that union. If I had the understanding I possess now, possibly, things would not have taken a turn for the worse.” He acknowledged that acknowledging this truth is challenging, but it’s his perspective.
Shabana Azmi, wife number two of Akhtar, pondered over the difficulties of being in a three-sided romantic situation, particularly when children are involved. She characterized these experiences as intensely private and distressing, exacerbated by the hasty opinions people express, branding someone as a “family disruptor” or “destroyer.” At first, she felt compelled to share her perspective, but soon recognized that doing so would cause unnecessary pain to many others.
Shabana felt that being wise meant staying quiet and taking any criticism that came her way. Moreover, she attributed the fact that Javed’s first wife, Honey, didn’t turn their children against her to Honey. Shabana acknowledged that Honey gave the kids a sense of safety, making it so they didn’t see her as a wicked stepmother. Now, Shabana and Honey have a friendly and favorable relationship due to this.
Back in the day, I was head-over-heels for Honey Irani, a talented artist and wordsmith who once graced our silver screens as a child and penned tales that touched hearts. Together, we brought forth two extraordinary creators, Farhan and Zoya Akhtar. However, by the early ’80s, the fabric of our bond started to fray. As destiny would have it, I found myself smitten by another enchanting soul, Shabana Azmi, whom I eventually married in 1984.
Based on TopMob’s assessment, Angry Young Men stands out as one of India’s top documentaries. This compelling film offers an adventure that you will undoubtedly appreciate and be grateful for experiencing.
