Jean-Claude Van Damme Action Sequel Lands on Netflix on Christmas Day

As a die-hard fan of Jean-Claude Van Damme and action movies that leave me breathless with anticipation, I can hardly contain my excitement for “Kill ‘Em All 2”. Growing up, I’ve witnessed the Muscles from Brussels conquer the silver screen in iconic films like “Kickboxer”, “Bloodsport”, and “Universal Soldier”. The mere mention of his name sends a rush of adrenaline coursing through my veins.

Action movie enthusiasts are thrilled to learn that they’ll have a blockbuster treat this coming Christmas, as the upcoming film starring martial arts legend Jean-Claude Van Damme is set to premiere on a streaming platform on December 25, 2024. Known for iconic action films like Kickboxer, Bloodsport, Street Fighter, Universal Solider, and numerous others, Van Damme headlines the sequel Kill ‘Em All 2. In this film, the “Muscles from Brussels” portrays a spy who confronts a terrorist seeking vengeance.

According to What’s on Netflix’s report, “Kill ‘Em All 2” is set to stream on Netflix in the U.S., as part of Sony Pictures’ first-window deal for an 18-month period. This means it will arrive on Netflix just in time for a delightful holiday family viewing experience. The new movie, released seven years after the original which came out in 2017, is directed by Valeri Milev and written by James Agnew. It features Jean-Claude Van Damme, Jacqueline Fernandez, Peter Stormare, and María Conchita Alonso in leading roles. For more details, you can read the official synopsis provided below.

Seven years following the occurrences of “KILL ‘EM ALL,” former spy Philip (Jean-Claude Van Damme) and his long-lost daughter, Vanessa, have been living a tranquil off-the-grid life in Italy. However, their seclusion is compromised when the vindictive brother of an earlier target, named Vlad, learns their location. To evade Vlad’s ruthless troops, Philip and his daughter are forced to take extreme measures for survival. In a desperate struggle against overwhelming odds, father and daughter band together to protect themselves, as well as the village that once held significance for Philip. To vanquish Vlad’s soldiers, save the imperiled lives they’ve endangered, and secure their own safety, Philip and Vanessa know that the mission isn’t complete until the final bullet has been discharged.

Will ‘Kill ‘Em All 2’ Give Action Movie Fans Everything They Want This Christmas?

In terms of Jean-Claude Van Damme’s films, fans typically understand what they’re getting into, given his reputation as a genre heavyweight. However, even these expectations might be overly optimistic for the action sequel Kill ‘Em All 2. Despite limited reviews being available (perhaps critics were busy watching quality productions), those that exist don’t have a stellar reputation. Nevertheless, Eoin from The Action Elite did find it to be an upgrade compared to the initial Kill ‘Em All outing, which currently rates at 21% on the Popcornmeter.

While calling ‘Kill ‘Em All 2’ superior to its predecessor might not be a glowing compliment, I found myself enjoying this film. Despite noticeable stand-ins being used, the action remains plentiful, and at roughly 85 minutes long, it’s a swift, engaging watch.

Unfortunately, unlike others, Tyler Nichols from JoBlo didn’t find much to appreciate about the action sequel, despite being an admitted Jean-Claude Van Damme enthusiast.

While I’m quite fond of JCVD, it’s clear that his age is more noticeable in poorly-directed scenes. In this movie, he seems more like an elderly man going through a choreographed routine with a stuntman. Despite his capability for delivering excellent performances (as shown in Darkness of Man), his action scenes in this film are rather restricted. I’m left wondering why they decided to make a sequel to Kill ‘Em All, and upon viewing it, I’m just as puzzled about the intentions of the filmmakers.
