Jeff Bridges Wasn’t “Fond of” His CGI Appearance in ‘Tron: Legacy’: “I Looked More Like Bill Maher”

As a long-time admirer of Jeff Bridges‘ illustrious career spanning over five decades, it’s always fascinating to delve into his thoughts and experiences, especially when it comes to iconic roles like Kevin Flynn in the Tron series.

Jeff Bridges wasn’t the biggest fan of his appearance in 2010’s Tron: Legacy

Just the other day, I sat down with Josh Horowitz on his podcast, “Happy Sad Confused.” During our chat, he brought up an interesting topic – how I felt about my likeness getting digitally scanned for a film directed by Joseph Kosinski. It’s quite intriguing to ponder over!

The latest innovation… I had a scan made for when we filmed ‘Tron 2’, and it was called ‘Legacy’. However, I wasn’t very pleased with the portrayal of me in that movie. I felt it resembled Bill Maher more than myself.

In the movie “Tron: Legacy,” which was released approximately three decades after the 1982 science fiction film Tron, the actor once again took on the role of Kevin Flynn, the video game designer. Interestingly, this film also introduced a de-aged version of himself, playing the character Clu (short for Codified Likeness Utility).

Joachim Rønning’s upcoming movie “Tron: Ares” will feature the return of Bridges, although he’ll only have a minor role. The film stars Jared Leto, Evan Peters, and Greta Lee, and follows an advanced program named Ares (played by Leto), who is dispatched from the digital world on a perilous real-world mission. This was shared with Horowitz during an interview with Bridges.

The star of the old movie titled “The Old Man” reminisced about the original “Tron,” labeling it as peculiar. He further explained, “Things that venture so far out of the ordinary, things never before attempted, hold a certain safety in their uniqueness. They exist independently, without comparison.

Last month at D23, Jeff Bridges unveiled the upcoming film “Tron: Ares,” scheduled for release on October 10, 2025. During his stage appearance, he hinted, “Technology and AI have become an integral part of our daily lives. It’s a fitting moment to revisit this world or, in this movie, for the world to come to us instead.
