Jeff Lynne has already had his, what’s believed to be, final show.
It was planned for Lynne, the lead singer of the British rock band Electric Light Orchestra (ELO), to give his final live performance and headline at the BST Hyde Park festival on Sunday as part of his “Over and Out” farewell tour. Unfortunately, this event has been called off due to health concerns he is experiencing.
On Instagram, it was announced that Jeff Lynne is deeply saddened and regretful that he won’t be able to perform at tomorrow’s BST Hyde Park show. Due to a persistent systemic infection, he’s under the care of doctors who have advised him that performing isn’t feasible right now, and they can’t reschedule either.
Today, Jeff’s thoughts are primarily centered around the heritage of the band and his devoted long-term fans. Regretfully, he can’t perform at the moment, but he understands the necessity of prioritizing his health and recovery during this period.
The group was established in Birmingham back in 1970 by its creators, Lynne, Roy Wood, and Bev Bevan. Unfortunately, they disbanded in 1986, but Lynne briefly reappeared in 2001. However, he officially rejoined the band again in 2014 following a revival, which brought him back along with pianist Richard Tandy.
During their final tour, Lynne remained as the last original band member since Tandy passed away in 2024 at the age of 76. On social media, he expressed his feelings by honoring his long-term partner and musical collaborator: “With deep sorrow, I announce the demise of my long-standing creative partner and cherished friend Richard Tandy. He was an exceptional musician and friend, and I’ll treasure the countless moments we shared throughout our lives.
