has carved herself an incredible career since making her first appearance in the
– a role that many people forget even exists. Like many actors in Hollywood, Ortega is constantly fielding questions about when she could be making an appearance in Marvel’s mighty machine, and naturally, that led her to remind them that she had a small role in Iron Man 3.
Ortega has been promoting her new movie, Death of a Unicorn, which also stars an MCU veteran, Paul Rudd. While being asked about the possibility of joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe with so many new characters set to be introduced – essentially a whole roster of X-Men – Ortega once again explained how she has already been in the franchise, even though her role was reduced from what it could have been. She told Entertainment Tonight:
“I did it once. It was one of the first jobs I ever did. They took all my lines out. I’m in ‘Iron Man 3’ for a quick second. I take up the frame, I have one leg and I’m the vice president’s daughter.”
Although her new costar, Rudd, pointed out that there could still be a chance that Marvel would bring that character back because “they would be lucky to have Jenna Ortega in their franchise,” Ortega replied:
“They even took my name away. I count that, then I move on.”
Could Jenna Ortega Return to the MCU?
In short, yes, it is always possible for anyone to return to the MCU, even as a new character. Considering how brief and forgettable her original role was – which also happened when she was incredibly young – it would also be likely that Marvel would come calling for a different role to the one she originally played.
There have been many stars who have played multiple roles in the MCU. Gemma Chan originally appeared in a quite prominent role in Captain Marvel before returning as the lead in Eternals. Other actors have provided voice roles and then appeared on-screen as another character later down the line. Considering how young Ortega was at the time of Iron Man 3’s release, and how easily forgotten her character is, there are many larger roles coming up in the future that she could be asked to step into as the Multiverse Saga comes to a close, and the next phase begins.
Ortega may sound like she is in no hurry to return to the MCU, but in any capacity, she has not completely ruled it out either. However, she is currently one of the most sought-after young stars in the industry, and that may mean that she is now just too busy to take on a prominent role in the Marvel Universe. Having appeared in two Scream movies, and several other horror franchises, Ortega has developed a niche in some dark roles, including her upcoming return as Wednesday Addams in Netflix’s fantasy series based on The Addams Family – which is likely to continue into a third season. Ortega has also been tapped for a role in a remake of the ‘90s thriller Single White Female, which suggests she is certainly not short on work right now.
