Jennie Rocks L.A. With Stunning Live Debut of ‘The Ruby Experience’

Feeling the vibe to groove with me like Jennie? Keep your hairstyle and nails on point, just like hers. Who else has got everyone hooked like she does?”

Last night, I (K-pop superstar Jennie from Blackpink) rocked a packed house at L.A.’s Peacock Theater.

Immediately standing up were the spectators as they eagerly awaited the initial live rendition of the highly anticipated new single from the 29-year-old artist, Jennie, named “Like JENNIE.” This performance was included in her exclusive concert to promote her debut solo album, “The Ruby Experience,” which began its premiere on Thursday night. During the event, Jennie played all fifteen tracks from her album for the audience, making it the live premiere for almost every song on the playlist (she had previously performed her hit single “Mantra” live).

Under a collaboration with her own label Oddatelier and Columbia Records, Ruby, released recently, represents the singer’s most comprehensive collection yet. This album boasts collaborations with artists such as Childish Gambino, Doechii, Dominic Fike, Dua Lipa, and Kali Uchis. It was just announced that this global sensation has surpassed 450,000 pre-orders worldwide, a milestone achieved in the lead-up to its release, which timely coincided with the beginning of Thursday’s performance.

Jennie, known for her hit singles, is scheduled to perform at the 2025 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival. Previously, as a member of Blackpink, she had played this festival on two occasions. Alongside Lisa, Jisoo, and Rosé, she headlined the festival in 2023 and made their Coachella debut in 2019. As a four-member girl group created by Korean entertainment company YG Entertainment, Blackpink became the first K-pop act to lead the festival.

Each individual member of the band has seen remarkable growth in their individual careers over the past year, outside of their group work. In December 2023, it became public knowledge that Blackpink re-signed their exclusive contracts for group endeavors with YG Entertainment. Subsequently, it was revealed that each member chose to depart from the label to focus on their solo projects.

On March 7th, Jennie is scheduled to perform another show at the Peacock Theater in the evening. Following this, she will bring The Ruby Experience to Radio City Music Hall in New York and Inspire Arena in Seoul. Here are some key points from the first night of The Ruby Experience in Los Angeles.

Jennie Showed Her Range By Playing All of ‘Ruby’

In an unprecedented move, the multi-talented singer-rapper unveiled a fresh aspect of herself to her audience through “Ruby” and The Ruby Experience. This album mirrored the live performance with a mix of tunes, from the chart-topping pop number “Mantra” to the energetic fusion of club music and hip hop in “Like JENNIE,” culminating in the poignant acoustic ballad “twin,” a heartfelt friendship breakup anthem. Prior to 2024, Jennie’s standalone releases primarily adhered to the pop style synonymous with Blackpink. The album’s diverse range of tempo and genre could be divided into segments: experimental tracks, traditional pop tunes, high-energy numbers, and emotional moments, making Thursday night’s performance a unique blend of these elements.

  • The Ruby Experience Offered Fans a Cinematic Experience

Ruby, as an album, appears to have been carefully planned with a specific concept in mind. Jennie’s The Ruby Experience allowed fans to immerse themselves in this world through the high-quality video segments and stage design and setup of the show. Interestingly, the singer even streamed a full credits roll for the show, acknowledging almost every team member involved, from the creators to the legal professionals.

  • The K-Pop Star Was Stylish As Ever

By tweaking her outfit slightly or donning different garments, Jennie skillfully gave each song a distinct visual identity, subtly altering her style in the process. Given that she often attends fashion shows globally, it’s no wonder that every one of her ensembles was flawless and perfectly suited to the occasion.

  • The Transition of “Like JENNIE” to “With the IE (Way up)” Perfectly Showcased the Star’s Sweet Spot

JENNIE’s performance undeniably got the crowd standing; just her reaction demonstrated why they chose this song as the album’s lead single. Following that, the pop star along with her dance team seamlessly moved on to the next number, “With an IE (way up),” cleverly incorporating a sample from Jennifer Lopez’s famous hit, “Jenny from the Block.” The sequence of these two songs was brilliant and highlighted Jennie at her most self-assured.
