Jeremy Renner Rejected ‘Hawkeye’ Season 2, Claims Disney Only Offered “Half” His Salary

Jeremy Renner is revealing why he shot down returning to Disney+ for Hawkeye season two.

The actor asserts that the budget-conscious executives at Disney initially proposed paying him just half of his initial season one wage.

Furthermore, Renner mentioned that this event occurred following his severe 2023 snowplow accident, an incident that came close to claiming his life and required numerous months of rehabilitation for recovery – making the situation even more frustrating.

In an interview with the High Performance sports podcast (as seen in the clip below), Renner appeared frustrated when he said: “They asked me to do season two, but only paid me half of what they initially offered. This means I’d have to put in twice as much effort for half the compensation – effectively giving them eight months of my time, and yet you want me to work for half the amount? I can’t help but wonder, did they think I’m only half the Jeremy because I was run over? Is that why they’re offering me half of what I made in the first season?

According to what was reported by The Hollywood Reporter, an individual within Disney challenged Renner’s statements without providing details about the disagreement.

Renner stated: “And it’s not like Marvel. My role is more akin to a low-budget Disney, not even true Disney, but rather the cost-cutters, the financiers. When he made the insulting offer, I suggested he should go fly a kite. We didn’t agree on the terms, unfortunately. I still cherish the character and would still want to portray it, but I had to stand up for myself. I didn’t ask for more money; just pay me what you initially did for the first season. It’s a bit disappointing that didn’t transpire, but I can let it go because my body is likely grateful I’m not doing it right now.

Typically, an actor’s paycheck rises as a TV series progresses into subsequent seasons. For instance, the first season of Hawkeye, released in 2021, received excellent reviews and garnered impressive scores on Rotten Tomatoes (92% positive critic score and 88% audience score). Additionally, it ranked among the Top 10 shows on streaming platforms and consistently gained more viewers each week during its five-week run. The finale attracted a peak of 938 million minutes of viewing time during Christmas week. It remains uncertain if or when Jeremy Renner might reappear in the Marvel universe. However, he was not included in the cast for Avengers: Doomsday, although more castings are yet to be announced.
