Jessica Alba Stresses the Urgency of Current Climate Crisis: “This Election Year Is a Pivotal Moment” (Exclusive)

As a gamer who has spent countless hours immersed in virtual worlds and witnessed the devastating effects of climate change in those digital landscapes, I can wholeheartedly appreciate the efforts of Jessica Alba and the Latino Victory Project.

Jessica Alba persists in her efforts for environmental activism; this time, she’ll be the host at the Latino Victory Project’s second yearly “Brunch Like a Madre” event, which marks the start of their 2024 “Vote Like a Madre” campaign.

Mothers’ Voice Voting Initiative” is a non-politically affiliated project that aims to inform the public about climate matters and boost Latina participation in elections. This year, it plans to allocate over $2 million towards enhancing voter participation. The event showcased discussions on the global warming predicament and the devastating effects of abnormal disasters and severe weather events on Latin American communities within the U.S.

2020 is an incredibly important year… Speaking metaphorically, casting a vote like a mother embodies the strong and nurturing spirit of someone who holds a pivotal role in the family. However, one doesn’t have to be female to embody that maternal energy. We all share the responsibility of safeguarding our planet, because by preserving the Earth, we are ultimately protecting the people who inhabit it. In essence, caring for the planet means caring for humanity.

She went on to say, “For far too long we’ve been made to feel helpless, for far too long we’ve accepted the falsehood that our actions don’t matter. Yet, one vote, one individual, has a tremendous impact… I started working when I was 12 years old and learned how to be an entrepreneur. I discovered how to establish a business unlike any other. All in a bid to safeguard my children and every child. One person can bring about that change.

During an inspiring address at the Gracias Madre restaurant in Los Angeles, Alba implored everyone present to utilize their individual platforms and discuss voting registration with their loved ones, assembling collectively has the power to shift even the largest of obstacles.

She expressed confidence in our abilities, acknowledging this election year as a significant turning point. There’s a multitude of critical matters at stake, such as climate change, gun control, reproductive rights, the economy, and more. However, she emphasized that we possess the power to shape the future we desire. We can indeed bring about change and create the future we envision.

As a fan, I was thrilled to be among the attendees at the kick-off brunch, where stars like Eva Longoria, who is part of the Latino Victory Project, America Ferrera, Camila Cabello, Gloria Calderón Kellet, Karla Souza, Lin-Manuel Miranda and his mother Dr. Luz Towns-Miranda, Michaela Jaé Rodriguez, Rosario Dawson, Rosie Perez, and Stephanie Beatriz graced the event with their presence. What an incredible gathering of talent and influence!

As per the executive director of the Latino Victory Project, Katharine Pichardo-Erskine, the 2024 campaign strategically collaborated with celebrities that best connected with Vote Like a Madre’s intended demographic – Latinas who are deeply committed to safeguarding their families and the environment.

2024 campaign is focusing its strategies on the battleground state of Arizona, aiming to inspire approximately 15,000 more Latinas to vote by crafting compelling narratives through personalized ads starring Latin mothers and influential figures. Additionally, they plan to leverage social media trends and partnerships with local Latina leaders for climate justice-themed events and interactive discussions.

The executive director shared with The Hollywood Reporter that their approach is based on data analysis. They are concentrating their efforts on regions where the turnout of Latino voters could potentially decide election results. In the 2020 elections, Latino voters significantly influenced states such as Nevada and Arizona, and they aspire to achieve a similar impact in 2024.

Approximately half of Latin individuals residing in the United States inhabit counties with elevated pollution levels, which exacerbate asthma and other respiratory issues. The organization declared this in a press statement, also noting that recent severe weather occurrences, such as destructive wildfires sweeping across certain regions and unusually intense heatwaves, are directly linked to human-induced pollution and abnormal disasters.

The impact of climate change isn’t something that will happen far in the future. In fact, Latinos are 165% more likely than non-Hispanic whites to reside in regions prone to environmental catastrophes, as stated by Pichardo-Erskine. Our campaign strives to make this matter relatable and empower Latina mothers to act, not just for their own safety but also for the wellbeing of future generations.
