Jigra star Alia Bhatt recalls Aishwarya Rai Bachchan's impact on her; reveals watching latter’s songs to 'catch her expressions'

As a dedicated follower of Bollywood, I have been captivated by the enchanting performances of Alia Bhatt and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan throughout their illustrious careers. Their versatility and dedication to their craft are truly commendable.

Alia Bhatt has demonstrated her exceptional acting abilities by taking on a variety of roles throughout her successful Bollywood career. Her adaptable portrayals in films, such as Veera from Highway, Bauria from Udta Punjab, and Gangubai from Gangubai Kathiawadi, are evidence of this versatility. Alia Bhatt’s acting journey began with Karan Johar’s Student of the Year in 2012, and it flourished with popular films like Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, Highway, 2 States, among others. Recently, the actress known as ‘Jigra’ Alia Bhatt reminisced about Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s influence on her and disclosed that she used to watch the former’s songs to study her expressions.

During a recent chat for the “Favorite Things of All Time” segment with Allure, Alia Bhatt was asked about her favorite stars in Indian cinema. Following Shah Rukh Khan, she mentioned Aishwarya Rai Bachchan as another actress who has had a significant influence on her.

Over time, the actress from Jigra explained that she first came to appreciate movies through their music, melodies, and choreography, which are significant elements in Indian cinema. She referred to this aspect as a crucial element contributing to the festive spirit in films.

In expressing thoughts about individuals who captivate through their dance performances on screen, Alia couldn’t help but mention Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. She continues to be, and always has been, utterly enchanting.

31-year-old actress acknowledges the Ae Dil Hai Mushkil co-star as the one who shaped her thoughts and intelligence, while also mentioning that she used to watch the beauty queen’s performances in films when she was Alpha star.

Alia often studied Aishwarya’s performances when it came time for her to sing songs from her films, focusing on Aishwarya’s expressions. Additionally, Alia admired Aishwarya’s graceful dance moves and overall demeanor in the Devdas tracks.

Alia commended the 50-year-old actress, noting that her acting skills are both flawless and meticulous. She also mentioned that the actress is a delight to behold.

Previously, in March of this year, Alia Bhatt attended a Forbes function where she was queried about her experience working in Hollywood following her debut alongside Gal Gadot in Heart of Stone. In response, Alia expressed admiration for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra who have ventured abroad, describing them as a “major inspiration” to her.

Alia Bhatt, who starred in The Heart of Stone, openly acknowledged her deep respect for Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, and Priyanka Chopra. She also commended these actresses for blazing a trail that made it more acceptable for her to pursue a career in Hollywood. In simpler terms, they made it seem natural for her to work in Hollywood.

Prior to Alia Bhatt, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was originally considered for the role of Veera in Imtiaz Ali’s 2014 film, “Highway.” In a previous interview with MidDay, director Imtiaz revealed that he initially envisioned Veera as a more mature character. However, after meeting Alia Bhatt, he decided to cast her instead, admitting that Aishwarya Rai would have been excellent for the role without makeup. It’s important to note that Imtiaz did not approach Aishwarya for the part.

In terms of her professional endeavors, Alia Bhatt has several upcoming projects. One of them is “Jigra,” directed by Vasan Bala, featuring Vedang Raina from The Archies series. Another film is the spy thriller “Alpha” produced by Yash Raj Films, where she’ll be acting alongside Sharvari. Additionally, Alia will appear in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s “Love & War,” a movie also featuring Ranbir Kapoor and Vicky Kaushal as main leads. Filming for this film begins next month, and it is set to hit theaters on March 20, 2026.
