Jimmy Smits Returns to ‘Dexter: Resurrection’ – What You Need to Know!

It’s been three years since Michael C. Hall reappeared as our cherished vigilante serial killer in “Dexter: New Blood,” and although he had a brief cameo in “Original Sin,” “Dexter: Resurrection” promises his full-time comeback to the character initially introduced in Jeff Lindsay’s novels. In this new installment, Hall will be accompanied by several new actors, but we now have confirmation that another well-known face from the original series, Jimmy Smits, will also join the cast.

By the Set Date, Smits will once again play Miguel Prado, a character whom Dexter had killed in Season 3’s episode “The Damage a Man Can Do.” Initially, Miguel was a friend to Dexter, aware of his hidden Dark Passenger. However, as events unfolded, Miguel’s thirst for vengeance obscured his judgement, leading the Assistant District Attorney to end up wrapped in plastic on Dexter’s murder table. His demise was eventually attributed to The Trinity Killer, portrayed by John Lithgow.

Regarding Lithgow, he’s coming back in the show Resurrection, playing Arthur Mitchell – though in ghostly form. In this series, it’s common for Dexter to encounter spectral figures from his past and converse with those who have departed. It seems that this time, his deceased victims might be getting involved too, as both Lithgow and Smits reappear to further distress an already troubled character. We don’t yet know if these appearances will be brief or extend over several episodes.

More Familiar Faces Will Be Back for ‘Dexter: Resurrection’

Apart from Lithgow and Smits reprising their previous characters, we can expect some other familiar faces to make a comeback, both from the original show and its follow-up. James Remar is set to reappear as Harry Morgan, Dexter’s adoptive father who often serves as a voice of reason. In addition, David Zayas will be back as Angel Batista, who featured in both “Dexter” and “Dexter: New Blood”. Lastly, Jack Alcott will return as Dexter’s son, Harrison, who played a crucial role in the sequel by shooting his father at the end of the miniseries.

Jennifer Carpenter won’t reprise her role as Deb, but the void she leaves will be filled with an impressive lineup of stars. Alongside the familiar faces are new additions like Peter Dinklage portraying enigmatic billionaire Leon Prater, and Uma Thurman stepping into the role of his security chief. We also have Neil Patrick Harris taking on a character named Lowell, David Dastmalchian in an unspecified role, and Eric Stonestreet from “Modern Family” joining the cast as announced so far. As we approach the summer premiere, more star-studded names may be added to the roster.

While you wait, don’t miss the chance to delve deeper into the world of Dexter! Apart from watching the original series, you can also explore “New Blood” and “Original Sin”. These additional shows are now streaming together with the original on Paramount+ in conjunction with Showtime.
