Jinkx Monsoon to Take Over Lead Role in ‘Oh, Mary!’

Jinkx Monsoon will take over the role of Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! starting in August.

Starting August 4th, “Monsoon”, a contestant from “RuPaul’s Drag Race”, will assume the role for an eight-week stint that ends on September 27th. Prior to Monsoon’s performance, Tituss Burgess will portray Mary Todd Lincoln from June 23rd until August 2nd.

The part was initially brought to life by Cole Escola, who not only played it but also wrote the script and is currently featured in the Broadway show. Escola, who has recently been awarded a Tony for their portrayal of Mary Todd Lincoln, will deliver their last performance on June 21st. Oh, Mary! The director, Sam Pinkleton, was also honored with a Tony Award.

At present, Monsoon is performing in the musical “Pirates! The Penzance” until July 27th. Previously, this performer has graced the stages of Broadway with their talent in “Chicago,” and Off-Broadway in “Little Shop of Horrors.

Once more, let me emphasize my point: I believe Cole Escola is the funniest individual on Earth,” Monsoon expressed. “One of the most hilarious and exhilarating things I have ever witnessed is ‘Oh, Mary!’. Being part of this production, even for a brief period, feels like more than just an honor and privilege; it’s also a fantastic opportunity to highlight the comedic writing skills of one friend, the directing abilities of another, and all the other amazing aspects of this unique show. I’m thrilled to swap my old pair of bloomers for a new set.

In July 2024, Escola made her debut both Off-Broadway and on Broadway. Later that year, she temporarily stepped away from the role during winter, as did several other original cast members, before coming back in April. Betty Gilpin played the role from January to mid-March, after which Burgess assumed it for approximately a month.

“Hey Mary! Just wanted to let you know that Conrad Ricamora, James Scully, Bianca Leigh, and Tony Macht will continue with the show until August 2. You can buy tickets for the performance up until January 2026.”
