Jody Frisch, Former WGA and SAG-AFTRA Communications Executive, Dies at 68

As a gamer, I can’t help but appreciate the fascinating journey that Jody Frisch’s life took, weaving through the vibrant tapestry of Hollywood and Washington D.C. Her resume is akin to an epic quest, filled with challenges, triumphs, and a rare blend of skills that would make any role-playing game character envious.

On Wednesday, Jody Frisch, a communications professional who previously worked at the Writers Guild of America and SAG-AFTRA, passed away at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles following a brief fight against pancreatic cancer. This sad news was shared by her friend Joanna Dodd Massey. Jody was 68 years old.

In my early professional journey, I had the privilege of working with the renowned producer Cameron Mackintosh, helping him promote his stage versions of “The Phantom of the Opera” and “Miss Saigon”. Additionally, during the 1990s, I was personally entrusted with public relations for the talented Meredith Baxter, a star from the popular series “Family Ties”.

Throughout her career, Frisch has skillfully managed multiple media campaigns, crises, and reputation management projects, as well as advocated for various public policies. She brings a unique blend of experience from both legislative and entertainment industries, as well as the nonprofit and government sectors to her work.

From 2006-09, she served as the head of public policy and government relations for the WGA, with her work schedule dividing between Washington D.C. and Los Angeles, starting in 2007.

After spending two years at MPRM Communications, she moved on to SAG-AFTRA, taking up the role of a strategic communications and public affairs executive in 2015. She later left this position.

As an ardent advocate, I’ve had the privilege of serving various renowned organizations in our nation’s capital. I’ve been a part of Planned Parenthood, championing reproductive rights; the National Abortion and Reproductive Rights Action League, fighting for women’s health choices; the National Foreign Trade Council, promoting global trade; the BGR Group, offering strategic advice; and as the national director of public affairs for the American Humane Association, working tirelessly to protect our beloved animals.

Originally hailing from Los Angeles, specifically the San Fernando Valley, Frisch spent her formative years there before moving on to high school in Hollywood and further education at Northeastern University. From 1994 to 2001, she was employed by a production company run by Craig Anderson, situated in Culver City. Additionally, she ran her own public relations firm.

She was an animal lover and advocate for women’s rights.

A commemoration event honoring her life and achievements is scheduled for later this year. Despite not having any close relatives, she was comforted by her friends during her last moments, as mentioned by Dodd Massey.
