John Fogerty is all set to launch a new album, featuring re-recorded versions of some of Creedence Clearwater Revival‘s best-known hits. Entitled “Legacy: the Creedence Clearwater Revival years“, this album is scheduled for release on August 22 by Concord.
John Fogerty unveiled his upcoming album, titled “Legacy,” during his 80th birthday concert held at the Beacon Theatre in New York on Wednesday evening. The new release boasts 20 songs, some of which are well-known hits such as “Bad Moon Rising,” “Fortunate Son,” “Down on the Corner,” and “Proud Mary,” along with other tracks.
Each track is labeled as “(John’s Adaptation),” a slightly less discreet reference to Taylor Swift’s well-known “(Taylor’s Version)” label, which she uses while re-recording her initial six albums following the disputes about the sale of her music catalog. Fogerty has already made accessible on streaming platforms his “(John’s Adaptation)” versions of “Up Around the Bend,” “Have You Ever Seen the Rain,” and “Porterville.
For decades, Fogerty fought one of the most notorious copyright battles in the music industry against Saul Zaentz, who owned CCR’s label Fantasy Records. In 2023, he reached an agreement with Concord, the current owner of Fantasy Records, purchasing a significant portion of CCR’s publishing catalog. Unlike artists such as Swift, who re-record their music to circumvent labels, Fogerty refers to these re-recordings as celebratory. Simultaneously, Concord, which retains the copyrights for the original recordings, is releasing them in harmony with Fogerty.
Throughout much of my life, I didn’t have possession of the tunes I had composed,” Fogerty declared. “Retrieving them feels like a game-changer. ‘Legacy’ is my method of honoring this — of performing these songs according to my wishes, with those dear to me by my side.
At the 2025 American Music Honors in April, John Fogerty was one of the honorees and took the stage with Bruce Springsteen that night. For his latest album, Fogerty collaborated with his son Shane Fogerty as producer, while Julie Fogerty, John’s wife and manager, served as executive producer. On this album, both Shane and Tyler Fogerty, along with Matt Chamberlain, Bob Malone, Bob Glaub, and Rob Stone, contributed their musical talents.
Julie Fogerty stated, ‘I personally understood the significance of John regaining his publishing rights.’ Since then, it has brought immense joy and beauty to him. This is a commemoration of his lifelong artistic endeavors. It’s like a grand celebration for the virtuous artist finally triumphing.
