John Wick Director’s SHOCKING Claims About Prequel

director Chad Stahelski opens up about his less-than-stellar experience on The Continental.

When asked about his reduced involvement in “The Continental” compared to the John Wick films, director Chad Stahelski said, “Keanu [Reeves] and I weren’t completely excluded, but our input wasn’t really considered.” The studio attempted to persuade him that they had things under control. They believed they had found the secret recipe for success.

If you remove Basil Iwanyk’s knack for producing, Keanu Reeves’ unique delivery of humorous lines, and my mental images, it’s not the same thing, Stahelski explained. They thought that using anamorphic lenses, setting scenes in a quirky hotel, adding strange dialogue, and incorporating crime drama would be simple enough. But if you saw our process, you’d be amazed, thinking, “You mean this blockbuster franchise does it this way?” I was scouting my next film in London yesterday and we found an amazing location that transformed the second act entirely. We rewrote the whole script…That’s what makes [the movies] so good and natural – we’re always striving to improve.

Chad Stahelski has been a constant presence in the John Wick series since its inception, directing every movie installment thus far. In addition to this, he served as an executive producer on John Wick 3: Parabellum and Bruised in 2020, produced Dayshift in 2022, John Wick: Chapter 4 set for release in 2023, and the upcoming Ballerina spinoff film. Among his various Hollywood projects, Stahelski is particularly renowned for one that tragically led to the death of its original star, Brandon Lee.

The Continental Serves as a Prequel to the Movies

In a new take on the “John Wick” universe, the series titled “The Continental” was introduced. This show featured Mel Gibson playing Cormac O’Connor, the head of the New York branch of the Continental hotel during the 1970s, alongside Colin Woodell who portrayed a younger version of Ian McShane’s character, Winston Scott, from the “John Wick” movies. The series detailed Cormac’s rise through the ranks of the hotel staff. Joining the ensemble cast were Mishel Prada, Ben Robson, Claire Cooper, and Ayomide Adegun who took on younger versions of some familiar characters, including Charon, originally played by the late Lance Reddick in the films.

The Continental is currently available for streaming on Peacock.
