It appears that Keanu Reeves’ character John Wick met a seemingly fatal end in ‘John Wick: Chapter 4’, as depicted by the last scene with Ian McShane’s Winston Scott and Laurence Fishburne’s Bowery King standing at his grave. However, it seems the big-screen adventures of this assassin are far from over, as we now learn that several new ‘John Wick’ projects are underway, including ‘John Wick: Chapter 5’.
At this moment, CinemaCon – an annual gathering for cinema owners – is underway in Las Vegas. This morning, during Lionsgate’s presentation at the event, they unveiled a significant expansion of the popular ‘John Wick’ franchise. Although Len Wiseman’s movie ‘Ballerina’, starring Ana de Armas, isn’t scheduled to hit theaters until summer, there are now four more films in development. These include ‘John Wick: Chapter 5’, a spinoff titled ‘Caine’ featuring Donnie Yen, and an animated prequel film, which are all part of the franchise’s growth plan.
John Wick: Chapter 5 Is Officially A Go
Even though John Wick met his end in “John Wick: Chapter 4,” speculation about a “John Wick: Chapter 5” started almost immediately after its release. A studio executive confirmed in May 2023 that the project was indeed under development. Director Chad Stahelski initially expressed uncertainty, but now it has been officially announced that both he and Keanu Reeves are on board for another installment of the series.
It seems that the specifics about the production, such as the release date and the screenwriter, haven’t been disclosed yet. However, it is known that Keanu Reeves, Chad Stahelski, producers Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee have discovered a story they wish to share.
Regarding the financial success of John Wick: Chapter 4, it’s not surprising news – taking into account that the main character met his end. The 2023 installment became the highest-grossing movie in the series to date, raking in over $440 million globally. Previously, John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum held the record with a global earnings of $326.7 million back in 2019.
Without a doubt, I’m eagerly anticipating the progress of “John Wick: Chapter 5” and we at TopMob are definitely keeping a watchful gaze, ready to catch any updates on this exciting project!

Caine Is Getting His Own Movie, And Donnie Yen Will Both Star And Direct
One major factor behind the immense popularity of “John Wick: Chapter 4” among both critics and viewers was the thrilling introduction of Donnie Yen as the highly skilled, visually impaired assassin Caine within the franchise. Today, the excitement has led to a spinoff film announcement. Rapidly progressing, the upcoming spinoff titled “Caine” is now in development.
Donnie Yen will not only reappear as the lead actor in the upcoming action movie set in the world of John Wick, but he will also take on the director’s role for this project. Previously, Yen gave an update about the film earlier this year, and now that it has received the go-ahead, production is scheduled to begin in Hong Kong in 2025.
Mattson Tomlin, famed for crafting the Netflix animated series “Terminator Zero”, has been assigned to pen the script for an upcoming movie. Among his forthcoming ventures are “The Batman Part II”, a joint writing effort with director Matt Reeves, and “BRZRKR”, an adaptation of the same-titled comic book, with Keanu Reeves set to play the lead role.
Information regarding the plot is being held under wraps at the moment, however, it’s been confirmed that “Caine” will unfold following the events of “John Wick: Chapter 4”. The main character manages to gain his liberty from the ominous assassin group called the High Table. Originally, this character was supposed to meet his demise at the hands of Rina Sawayama’s Akira in the end credits of the last “John Wick” film, but a last-minute decision was made to spare the character’s life, paving the way for this spinoff.

A John Wick Animated Prequel Is Going To Tell The Story Of John’s Impossible Task
In continuation of John Wick: Chapter 5 and Caine, the John Wick universe is set to grow beyond the events of Chapter 4. Lionsgate has also announced a fresh project that delves into the past, although it doesn’t have an official title as of now. This upcoming film will be an animated prequel and focuses on the legendary Impossible Task that Keanu Reeves’ character undertook to depart from his assassin career and enjoy a peaceful life with his wife, away from the world of killings.
Shannon Tindle, fresh off his work as a co-writer and director of the Netflix animated movie “Ultraman: Rising”, has been appointed to lead the development of an upcoming film. He will be working alongside screenwriter Vanessa Taylor, who previously served as a co-executive producer in seasons two and three of “Game Of Thrones” and co-wrote Guillermo del Toro’s Academy Award-winning film “The Shape Of Water” from 2017.
In an official announcement, Chad Stahelski (a producer involved in the project) referred to the upcoming prequel as a “John Wick-inspired anime,” implying the animation style that’ll be used. Additionally, Keanu Reeves will reprise his role by lending his voice to the main character of the film.
A release date for the animated John Wick prequel has not been announced.
Undeniably, the future of this action franchise shines brightly, and we’re eager to keep you updated on all major developments from these upcoming movies over the weeks, months, and years. The next chapter in the saga, titled Ballerina, is set to hit theaters nationwide on June 6. Keep an eye out here on TopMob for more thrilling updates straight from CinemaCon in the near future.
