Reportedly made on a whopping $200 million budget, the film’s production was fraught with issues, such as Warner Bros. not conducting test screenings and openly admitting to rewriting the script on the fly during production. This has left many disenchanted DCU fans questioning the wisdom behind shelving promising projects like Batgirl while pouring millions more into bringing a seemingly haphazardly constructed story like Joker: Folie à Deux to the silver screen.

Warner Bros. May Be Heading for Trouble After Joker: Folie à Deu x Flop

Since its release a week ago, critics have heavily criticized the film “Joker: Folie à Deux”. Despite not being the worst Warner Bros. production (that title goes to “The Flash”), the highly anticipated movie earned only $40 million at the domestic box office, with global earnings of just $121 million. This disappointing performance comes during a challenging time for Warners, as their merger with Discovery has resulted in significant stock losses and debt. In essence, Warner Bros. urgently needs to produce a successful film.

Following the underwhelming performance of “Joker: Folie à Deux,” the bar for future Warner Bros. productions has never been higher. Despite speculations that “Batgirl” might be resurrected due to tax benefits earned by writing off the film, it’s more likely that we won’t see it again. However, there are some exciting projects on the horizon. For instance, “Superman” is set to hit theaters in July 2025, and Robert Pattinson is expected to continue his acclaimed portrayal of Batman in 2026.
