As a longtime fan of stand-up comedy who has spent countless hours laughing at the sharp wit and biting humor of comedians like Jon Stewart, I must say that I find myself in full agreement with Mr. Stewart’s defense of Tony Hinchcliffe. While I understand the political implications of bringing a roast comic to a rally just days before an election, as a comedy enthusiast, I can appreciate the talent and humor that Hinchcliffe brings to the table.
Jon Stewart came forward to support Tony Hinchcliffe, after the latter’s remarks during Donald Trump’s event at Madison Square Garden on Sunday caused controversy.
To start off a 18-minute opening segment on his show, the host first spotlighted Tucker Carlson and Rudy Giuliani among the speakers at the rally. Later, he shifted focus to Hinchcliffe’s stand-up performance, particularly his joke about Puerto Rico being a “floating island of trash.
In hindsight, it wasn’t wise for the campaign to invite a satirist to a political rally right before Election Day and make fun of a crucial voting group. However, it should be noted that the person was just doing what they’re known for,” Stewart commented about the comedian.
Next, the host showcased segments from Hinchcliffe’s Tom Brady roast on Netflix where he truly shone amongst the other entertainers.
Absolutely, I agree, this is quite a pickle. I must admit, that comedian cracks me up. I’m at a loss here, honestly. I can’t imagine inviting him to an event and not having him tell jokes – it’s like inviting Beyoncé to perform but she gives a speech instead. Whoops!
Previously, the issue’s moderator emphasized that Hinchcliffe and fellow speakers at the gathering revealed a grim, end-of-the-world image of America during their speeches.
In Stewart’s words, he expressed confidence that the former President Trump would moderate those strong feelings. Later, he played a video clip where Trump stated, “Beginning from day one, I plan to initiate the most extensive deportation program ever seen in American history, targeting criminals for removal.
After Hinchcliffe’s remarks on Puerto Rico, various Latin celebrities expressed their backing for Harris. This group includes artists like Bad Bunny, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, as well as Ana Navarro from “The View,” along with others.
Navarro posted, ‘Experiment and see,’ referring to Trump rally speaker’s derogatory comment about Puerto Rico as ‘a floating island of garbage.’ In response, Bad Bunny, with his 45 million followers on social media, shared Kamala Harris’ proposal for Puerto Rico. She concluded her tweet by saying in Spanish, ‘Thank you, Benito. A thousand, a thousand thanks for defending your island and the dignity of your people.’
