The one-word title, eerie spinning football image, and hint of terrifying psychological horror in the teaser trailer for Universal Pictures’ “HIM” strongly resembles a typical production by Jordan Peele, the acclaimed director known for movies like “Get Out,” “Us,” and “Nope.” Notably, he serves as a producer on this sports-themed horror film.
In this project, Justin Tipping (known for ‘Kicks’ and ‘Joe vs. Carole’) served as the director, having collaborated on the script with Zack Akers and Skip Bronkie. The lead role is played by Tyriq Withers, a former college wide-receiver, in the story. He portrays Cameron Cade, a promising quarterback who has invested his entire life into football. On the brink of a crucial Combine that could significantly impact his career, Cameron gets assaulted by an overzealous fan, causing a brain injury. This potentially tragic blow might prevent him from reaching his dreams in football, just short of scoring the winning touchdown.
In a seemingly hopeless situation, our player encounters an extraordinary aid from his admired figure – eight-time Championship quarterback and renowned icon, Isaiah White (portrayed by Marlon Wayans from “Scary Movie”). Eager to regain his position on the field, Cameron journeys to the secluded retreat shared by Isaiah and his wife, Elsie (Julia Fox of “Uncut Gems”). However, as time passes, the allure of Isaiah transforms into something sinister, leading his protégé into a bewildering maze with potential costs greater than he could have imagined, according to the official synopsis.
In an interview with Vanity Fair last autumn, Tipping characterized the venture as a sports story told through the perspective of a traditional spaghetti western.

Besides Withers, Wayans, and Fox, the cast also includes Tim Heidecker (known for Us) and Australian comedian Jim Jefferies (from The Jim Jefferies Show). Additionally, it features the first film appearances of MMA fighter Maurice Greene and up-and-coming hip-hop artists Guapdad 4000 and Grammy nominee Tierra Whack.
In this film, Jordan Peele serves as one of the producers through his Monkeypaw Productions company, with Ian Cooper, Win Rosenfeld, and Jamal M. Watson also producing. David Kern and Kate Oh hold the positions of executive producers.

When does HIM open in theaters?
