Josh Charles to Star in ‘Doc Martin’ Adaptation at Fox

Fox is adding another medical show to its roster.

The television network has arranged for the production of Best Medicine, a remake of the popular British show Doc Martin. In this one-hour comedy, Josh Charles will play the lead role, portraying a renowned surgeon who unexpectedly gives up his position in Boston to practice general medicine in a coastal fishing village where he spent his childhood summers. Fox Entertainment, in collaboration with Propagate Content, will be responsible for creating and airing the series. The rights to the format of the show “Doc Martin” belong to All3Media International. Ben Silverman from Propagate will serve as executive producer, along with Rodney Ferrell (of the upcoming Apple TV+ series “Stick”), Liz Tuccillo (known for “Sex and the City” and “Divorce”), and Mark Crowdy and Philippa Braithwaite, who are Executive Producers of “Doc Martin”.

Currently, Charles can be found in the final season of “The Handmaid’s Tale,” streaming on Hulu. He received two Emmy nominations for his performance on “The Good Wife”; his television credits also include “Sports Night,” “The Veil,” “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt,” and HBO’s “We Own This City.
