Josh Johnson Joins ‘Daily Show’ Host Rotation (Exclusive)

The Daily Show is giving another one of its correspondents a shot behind the host’s desk.

This week, Josh Johnson takes over as the host for the Tuesday to Thursday episodes of the Comedy Central late-night show, making it his debut in that role. As always, Jon Stewart will be hosting on Monday nights.

Johnson will be part of a weekly host rotation taking place on Tuesdays and Thursdays, alongside Ronny Chieng, Jordan Klepper, Michael Kosta, and Desi Lydic. Since Stewart’s comeback to the show in February 2024, he has been hosting one episode each week (usually on Mondays), while also recording a Thursday podcast titled “The Weekly Show“. The remaining three episodes are hosted by other members of the news team.

For Johnson’s upcoming shows, the lineup includes author Rob Franklin of “The Great Black Hope” on Tuesday, singer Samara Cyn on Wednesday, and actor Christopher McDonald from “Happy Gilmore 2” on Thursday.

Johnson has served as a correspondent for The Daily Show for approximately one and a half years, but his association with the program dates back even earlier. In 2017, he became part of the show’s writing team following a previous engagement at NBC’s The Tonight Show.

Besides his role in The Daily Show, Johnson is also a renowned stand-up comedian with two specials under his belt. These include the 2021 release #(Hashtag) on Comedy Central and Up Here Killing Myself from 2023 on Peacock. He has also graced screens on Netflix’s Comedy Lineup, The Tonight Show, and CBS’ Late Show.

He’s additionally been nominated five times for an Emmy award as part of the writing team for The Daily Show, including this current year. This year, the show and a couple of its associated programs (a special hosted by Klepper and the YouTube series titled Desi Lydic Foxsplains) have collectively received a total of 12 Emmy nominations, which is the highest number of nominations in the show’s history.
