Jude Law & Andrew Garfield Star as Siegfried & Roy in Wild New AppleTV+ Series

Jude Law and Andrew Garfield are all set to portray two iconic figures from the ’90s in an upcoming AppleTV+ limited series. In this production, Law will play Siegfried Fischbacher, while Garfield will take on the role of Roy Horn – more famously recognized as the magical duo, Siegfried & Roy. This eight-episode series is inspired by the Apple Original Podcast titled “Wild Things: Siegfried & Roy,” which has been under development since 2022. Filming is scheduled to commence in autumn of 2025.

As a movie enthusiast, I’m thrilled to share that I’ve learned from Variety that John Hoffman, the mastermind behind “Only Murders in the Building” along with its leading star Steve Martin, is spearheading this series. He’ll wear multiple hats, including executive producer, showrunner, and director. In addition to their roles onscreen, Martin Short and Selena Gomez will also serve as executive producers. Moving behind the scenes, Matt Shakman is set to executive produce and direct the first episode. Brian Grazer, Kristen Zolner, Natalie Berkus, Tony Leondis, and Kathy Ciric are also joining the production team as executive producers. Will Malnati, who originated the podcast upon which the series is based, will be involved in this project too, executive producing alongside Steven Leckart, who was instrumental in creating, narrating, and executive producing the podcast for At Will Media.

Siegfried & Roy Were Gay Icons Whose Flashy Las Vegas Career Ended in Tragedy in 2003

Should you be unfamiliar with Siegfried & Roy, let me provide a brief introduction. This dynamic duo captivated audiences for decades through their unique blend of magic and animals, achieving a permanent residency on the Las Vegas Strip and global fame. They were not only skilled performers but also partners in both life and career, a fact that was relatively uncommon during their time. Their fashion style, flamboyant and extravagant like Las Vegas icon, Liberace at the piano, was another aspect of their appeal. However, they are best recognized for integrating rare white lions and tigers into their act. (Just a side note: Siegfried specialized in magic, while Roy was the animal trainer.)

In 1959, a duo crossed paths on a sea voyage, and soon after, they started performing harmoniously on cruises and European nightspots, earning widespread admiration. By 1967, Siegfried & Roy made their debut in Las Vegas; by 1990, they took center stage at The Mirage resort, with their show raking in an impressive $500 million within just a few years. For quite some time, they were the highest-earning entertainers in the vibrant Las Vegas scene.

Everything abruptly stopped in 2003 when Roy was viciously attacked by one of the show’s tigers during a performance. The attack was severe, causing him critical injuries and putting his life at risk just steps away from an audience. Miraculously, he survived, but this traumatic event marked the end of their Vegas residency and any further performances for him. Tragically, both men passed away in the early 2020s.
