Julie Bowen Thought She’d Be Replaced By Sydney Sweeney in ‘Happy Gilmore 2’

Approximately thirty years following the initial release of “Happy Gilmore”, a sequel has been announced – and it’s hard to believe that Julie Bowen, one of the original stars, is being invited back!

In the initial movie, Happy Gilmore, played by Adam Sandler, emerges as an unexpected golf champion. Bowen takes on the role of Virginia Venit, a PR director for professional golf tours who becomes Happy’s romantic interest. During Netflix’s Tudum event on Saturday, the trailer for ‘Happy Gilmore 2‘ was unveiled, and when Bowen learned about it, she initially thought, “I guess I won’t be featured in it.

She commented on Sandler’s character by saying, ‘That was acceptable – it was similar to Virginia Venit, after 30 years, he has a girlfriend. He even has another woman on the side, much like a golf cart attendant.’ Interestingly, she shared that her children informed her about the upcoming Happy Gilmore sequel before she received official news. Her now 18-year-old child said, ‘Mom, I’ve heard they’re making a sequel and he’s with Sydney Sweeney as a golf cart girl.’

Online rumors suggested that Sweeney had been chosen for the movie, but this turned out to be unfounded. Despite this, Bowen playfully commented, “I was hurt and I respect that move. Of course, why wouldn’t you? So when I received the call confirming my role, I responded, ‘You’re sure? Seriously?’

There’ll be many exciting new faces in the sequel, including Bad Bunny, Margaret Qualley, Benny Safdie, Travis Kelce, Kym Whitley, and Eminem. Bowen, who is a big fan of Bad Bunny, was thrilled to have him on set during filming.

Upon meeting Bad Bunny on set, I found myself feeling quite starstruck and thought, “Wow, I can’t even look him in the eye, I need to step away.” I believe he may have taken offense, so I had to return and address the situation. Unfortunately, I think I made things worse with my initial reaction, she joked. truth be told, I’m not one to want to meet idols because I fear I might act foolishly.

Happy Gilmore 2 starts streaming July 25 on Netflix.
