As a long-time fan of Junji Ito’s manga and anime adaptations, I couldn’t contain my excitement as I sat down to watch the latest news from Comic-Con regarding the upcoming “Uzumaki” mini-series. The suspense had been building since its initial announcement in 2019, and with each delayed release date, my anticipation grew stronger.
At the Comic-Con event in San Diego yesterday, Adult Swim formally revealed the launch date for the long-awaited anime adaptation of “Uzumaki,” a beloved manga series by Junji Ito.
Back in 2019, the announcement was made that this anime would debut as a compact four-episode series. At first, it was planned to air on Toonami in 2020. However, its launch date experienced numerous delays. Now, after the unveiling of the latest preview, the anime’s release date is no longer subject to change.
In just about one minute, the video offers a peek at the unsettling ambiance and eerie scenery of Uzumaki. It achieves this effect through its monochromatic visuals. The chilling atmosphere is further intensified by an hauntingly beautiful score created by Colin Stetson, who has previously composed music for Hereditary, Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022), and The Menu.
Watch the latest trailer for Uzumaki ahead of its Toonami premiere on September 28.
