In Universal Pictures’ “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” a new mutant dinosaur was introduced with a deadly, unprecedented skill. The Jurassic World series has become known for unveiling extraordinary dinosaurs, and the roster now encompasses creatures like the Indominus Rex and the Indoraptor.
In “Jurassic World: Reborn,” expectations will be heightened as it introduces a more menacing mutant dinosaur dubbed the Distortus Rex (D-Rex). The latest teaser trailer additionally previews another formidable dinosaur known as the Mutadon, which appears to have been engineered specifically for destruction.
Rebirth, the Mutadon is a unique dinosaur that’s a mix of characteristics from both Pterosaurs and Velociraptors, making it a genetically modified or mutated dinosaur.
In the concluding trailer for “Rebirth”, we get our initial glimpse of the fearsome Mutadon, as it launches an attack on a group of survivors, who are being guided by Scarlett Johansson’s character, Zora Bennett, while they struggle to flee the island.
In the trailer, at about the 1 hour 52 minute mark, I can’t help but notice that the Mutadon seems to possess an extraordinary skill – the ability to take flight. This means it becomes a significantly greater threat to Zora and her crew, ramping up the danger levels!
At 1:56 in the trailer, a detailed view of the Mutadon could be observed. This scene depicted the mutated dinosaur hunting its target, with Zora attempting to divert its attention.
This dinosaur, like the Velociraptor, chased its prey persistently and moved alongside it in a similar manner. What sets this dinosaur apart is its ability to fly, which likely makes it more efficient at finding its victims compared to an ordinary raptor.
In an interview with Empire, screenwriter David Koepp revealed that The Mutadon is one of the nine dinosaurs now confirmed for Jurassic World: Rebirth. He attributed these unique concepts to his “unusual imagination.
Originating from my unusual mind, these ideas were conceived. In certain earlier Jurassic World films, we witnessed the results of their experiments making dinosaurs larger, more aggressive, and terrifying. It struck both me and Steven [Spielberg] that not every one of those experiments could have turned out successfully.

In “Jurassic World: Rebirth,” Zora Bennett and her crew of scientists and operatives, guided by Henry Loomis (played by Jonathan Bailey) and Duncan Kincaid (portrayed by Mahershala Ali), undertake a mission to collect DNA samples from the three largest dinosaurs on land, in the air, and in the sea. Their goal is to develop a cure for humanity.
Additionally featuring Rupert Friend portraying Martin Krebs, Luna Blaise stepping into the role of Teresa Delgado, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado, this movie is set on a brand new island that served as the initial site for InGen’s dinosaur creation experiments.
The Mutadon’s Origins in Jurassic World Rebirth, Explained
In a manner reminiscent of the D-Rex, the Mutadon was an unsuccessful experiment that spiraled out of control when InGen attempted to create something extraordinary and fearsome prior to the events depicted in Jurassic Park. Some speculate that the Mutadon shares certain characteristics with dragon designs, suggesting that its inclusion in the initial park might have attracted more tourists.
It might be that the InGen researchers couldn’t find a way to control the Mutadon, which is why they left it on the island initially. Additionally, its ability to fly creates complications because of the high level of intelligence it has developed thanks to its raptor genes.
In “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, the Mutadon emerges as a significant danger, compelling the characters to revise their tactics for overcoming and escaping from it. Prior to setting foot on the island, Zora Bennett and her team likely have delved into studying the Velociraptor and Tyrannosaurus Rex in anticipation of any potential mission mishaps.
Regrettably, they seem oblivious to the fact that they are confronting significantly deadlier mutated dinosaurs which might push their abilities to the brink. The presence of the Mutadons on the island necessitates Zora to adapt her strategies swiftly in order to protect the blameless villagers from harm, resulting in thrilling chase scenes that could distinguish Jurassic World: Rebirth from other installments within the franchise.
