The court has decided that Justin Baldoni is allowed access to correspondence between Blake Lively and Taylor Swift regarding the production of “It Ends With Us.
On Wednesday, U.S. District Judge Lewis Liman determined that the information at hand was significant because Actress Lively had pointed out Swift as someone within her circle who could potentially possess insights into any grievances or conversations related to the film set’s work environment.
Lively successfully requested a safety measure prohibiting her from disclosing the information Baldoni’s legal team was asking for, stating that the conversations were not pertinent to the case.
The court expressed a different viewpoint. It referenced Lively, mentioning Swift potentially possessing relevant details for the ongoing case.
Liman wrote that the demands for messages about the movie and related actions, aimed at gathering evidence either supporting or contradicting Lively’s allegations of harassment and retaliation, are well-structured.
Based on the decision, Baldoni’s communication channels will only allow for messages related to the movie and the ongoing legal dispute.
The investigation continues regarding the case. Lively’s legal team has agreed to provide Baldoni’s lawyers with most of the requested documents, but not those involving Swift, unless they share all raw footage related to the movie and unedited versions of the communications mentioned in their amended complaint by the end of the week. However, this offer was rejected.
In one aspect, Swift’s part in the ongoing legal disputes stems from Lively’s claims that Baldoni manipulated a rooftop sequence at the start of the movie. Lively requested a meeting with the director at her New York City residence in 2023 to discuss script alterations. Upon arrival, Baldoni unexpectedly found himself face-to-face with Lively’s husband, Ryan Reynolds, and close friend, Swift, according to his lawsuit, which mentions correspondence containing the name “Taylor.” The high-profile figures reportedly endorsed Lively’s portrayal of the scene, exerting pressure on Baldoni to approve the changes, he alleged.
