As a gamer with a keen interest in politics and a deep respect for trailblazers, I eagerly anticipate the release of the documentary short film, Kamala. Coming from the perspective of someone who has spent countless hours navigating virtual worlds and overcoming obstacles, I can’t help but draw parallels between my gaming life and Harris’ remarkable journey.
A brief, fact-based movie about Vice President Kamala Harris will be shown in cinemas before this year’s presidential election takes place.
Directors Samir Zakir and Gerard Pizarro collaborated on the film “Kamala“, a production that seeks to bring light to the unspoken aspects of Harris’ voyage by incorporating personal accounts, animations, and interviews with notable celebrities, family members, close associates, and influential politicians.
The project’s official release date has not been disclosed yet, but it is set to premiere in theaters from October onwards. Later, it will be accessible through Premium Video On Demand (PVOD) and Streaming Video On Demand (SVOD) platforms before the presidential election scheduled for November 5, where Harris competes against Donald Trump.
It’s unclear how many theaters the short will play in, and its runtime was not revealed.
Illumin8 Entertainment and Pizarro Creative’s short film is being distributed by Bada Bing Pictures. The production includes CNN analyst Bakari Sellers, a former member of South Carolina’s state legislature, among its producers. This marks the directorial debut for Zakir and Wendy Pizarro, who are collaborating on the project with fellow first-time director Harris.
“Gerard Pizarro stated that this movie goes beyond chronicling Kamala’s political journey; it delves into her humanity. It showcases the fierce, jubilant fighter she is, advocating for the welfare of everyone. As a fellow underdog and budding filmmaker, I feel privileged to narrate the tale of another underdog – a Black and Indian woman who has shattered barriers and motivated countless others.”
1. Zakir serves as both an entrepreneur and philanthropist, holding the position of CEO and co-founder at Illumin8 Entertainment. This company specializes in initiatives concerning mental health and overall wellness. Gerard Pizarro, on the other hand, is a champion for social justice and a past trial lawyer who established Pizarro Creative to specifically highlight stories from underrepresented groups. Wendy Pizarro, with her legal background, is also a key player in the field of health and wellness innovation.
Harris’ journey began with her service as Attorney General of California, followed by her election to the U.S. Senate in 2016. She made history as the first African American and Asian American to hold the position of Vice President, a role she assumed recently, after President Joe Biden decided not to run for reelection in July. This week, she officially received the Democratic presidential nomination following this decision.
