Kaniehtiio Horn Battles to Save People’s Legacy in ‘Seeds’ Trailer

As a seasoned gamer with a knack for seeking out fresh, captivating narratives, I eagerly anticipate the release of “Seeds,” a film that seems to perfectly blend the genres of thriller and comedy while paying homage to indigenous culture. The trailer, featuring the talented Kaniehtiio Horn in her directorial debut, promises an intense, edge-of-your-seat experience with a touch of humor.

On the gaming side, I’d say:

The teaser for the film is being unveiled, as Friday marks the global premiere of Horn’s directorial debut at the Toronto Film Festival. At one point in the trailer, Horn, portraying Ziggy – a young Mohawk woman from the Kanienkehaka tribe – states, “War has been declared, and you may wonder what our people did to our adversaries during wartime?” As she wields a rifle on her reservation and ancestral lands, she is seen protecting her aunt’s precious seed cache from a threatening character named Bondsman.

Over time, the seeds carry a significant symbolism connected to Ziggy’s indigenous ancestry, becoming emblems of her family’s heritage. In doing so, she finds her inner strength and determination to keep them safe. The action-packed drama with humor elements is Kaniehtiio Horn’s debut directorial project following her rise as the Deer Lady on FX’s Reservation Dogs and Tanis on Hulu’s Letterkenny.

In the trailer, Dallas Goldtooth, a cast member from the show “Reservation Dogs,” portrays Ziggy’s cousin. The movie also features Graham Greene, Patrick Garrow, Meegwun Fairbrother, Dylan Cook, and Bonnie Whitlow. “Seeds” is produced by Leonard Farlinger and Jennifer Jonas of New Real Films, with Eva Thomas serving as an executive producer alongside Horn and Laurie Venning.

LevelFILM plans to premiere the movie “Seeds” in cinemas on October 25th. Meanwhile, the 2024 Toronto Film Festival will be held from September 1st to September 15th.
