Kanye West Brings Up 'Demons' While Explaining His Viral Antisemitic Tweet In Newly Released Interview From That Time

As a gamer with years of experience navigating the complex and often tumultuous world of celebrity culture, I’ve seen it all – from scandals to apologies, comebacks, and everything in between. But 2022 was a year that even left me scratching my head, particularly when it came to Kanye West, or Ye as he now prefers to be called.

2022 presented numerous challenges for Kanye West, also known as Ye. The prominent rapper and fashion entrepreneur found himself in heated discussions due to a series of antisemitic remarks he made throughout the year. One incident that drew widespread attention occurred when West posted an anti-Jewish tweet on Twitter, which eventually led to an interview with Candace Owens. In this conversation, recently made public, West spoke about “demons” as he attempted to clarify his controversial tweet.

In the autumn of 2022, a post by Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) was circulated, and in it, he expressed, “I’m feeling quite tired tonight, but when I wake up, I plan to activate Defense Condition 3 against Jewish people.” This post, later deleted, was preserved by NPR. In the same message, the influential figure pondered that “it’s ironic because, in truth, I can’t be anti-Semitic since black people are also Jews.” He concluded his statement by stating, “you’ve been playing games with me and trying to suppress anyone who opposes your agenda.” Following the post, Twitter temporarily suspended Ye’s account, which was reinstated in July 2023.

As a follower of Kanye West and his dynamic career, I found it intriguing to learn about the conversation Candace Owens had with him in 2022 regarding alcohol consumption. In their extensive discussion (available on YouTube), they delved into various topics, but what caught my attention was when Kanye attributed his social media musings to the influence of alcohol, claiming that it significantly impacts a person’s behavior. Given my own experiences with friends and family members who struggle with substance abuse, I can appreciate Kanye’s acknowledgement of its powerful hold on individuals. It serves as a reminder that we should always be mindful of our choices and their potential consequences.

As a seasoned podcast host with years of experience under my belt, I can confidently say that on the fateful day I posted the Defcon tweet, I was indeed under the influence of Hennessy. The rich aroma and bold taste of this fine cognac have been a part of many memorable moments in my life, but on this particular occasion, it seemed to take over completely. It’s not every day that the demons within me emerge so vividly, but that night, they were as real as ever. The haze of Hennessy swirled around me like a storm cloud, casting a gray pallor over my normally vibrant spirit. Needless to say, I regret nothing about that tweet – it’s just another chapter in the colorful tapestry of my life experiences.

Previously, it’s been noted that Kanye West made derogatory comments towards members of the Jewish faith on multiple occasions, not just in the tweet mentioned before. In October 2022, during an episode of the Drink Champs podcast (which has since been removed), he stated, “I can say things that are antisemitic, and Adidas can’t drop me.” Furthermore, in late 2023, West and Chris Brown faced criticism for allegedly laughing at an antisemitic rap during a public event. However, Brown claimed he didn’t participate in such actions. Lastly, in the documentary special The Trouble with KanYe, his ex-associate, Alex Klein, accused West of making additional antisemitic statements.

Besides facing criticism from fans, celebrities, and antisemitism monitoring organizations following his statement, Kanye West also suffered a series of professional downfalls. Adidas, CAA, Balenciaga, Vogue, among others, severed ties with him. At one point, he even mentioned his financial struggles, stating that he had been “beaten and bruised.”

As a lifelong music enthusiast who has followed Kanye West’s career since his early days as a producer for Jay-Z, I find it heartening to see him expressing remorse and apologizing publicly for past actions that may have caused harm or offense to others. It is not uncommon for artists, particularly those in the spotlight like Mr. West, to make mistakes and say things they later regret. What sets Kanye apart, however, is his willingness to acknowledge those errors, learn from them, and make amends when necessary.

Regarding Candace Owens, she has had past interactions with Ye, following their shared controversy over wearing White Lives Matter attire at a fashion event. Moreover, there was a potential $250 lawsuit looming between Ye and the Floyd family, involving allegations of harassment, defamation, and more, which seemed to involve Owens as well. However, Owens stated that she only recently shared her interview with the music icon due to now having an appropriate platform for dissemination. As of now, Ye has yet to publicly comment on their discussion.
