Known for his quick wit, biting sarcasm, and bold attitude, Karan Johar frequently utilizes social media to express his thoughts and share sarcastic comments, occasionally poking fun at individuals or circumstances. However, he’s not immune to criticism, particularly accusations of promoting nepotism within the entertainment industry. Most recently, he was seen donning a “nepo baby” t-shirt while out with Gauri Khan and Malaika Arora, fueling the ongoing debate about nepotism in the industry.
A viral video on the internet features Karan Johar donning a white sweatshirt emblazoned with “nepo baby,” as he leaves a well-known restaurant alongside Shah Rukh Khan’s entrepreneur wife, Gauri Khan, and their close friend from Bollywood, Malaika Arora. KJo’s attire caused quite a stir, leading some to speculate that it was an intentional gesture to mock his critics who accuse him of fostering nepotism in the Indian film industry.
Take a look:
Previously, I, a devoted admirer, found myself standing up for the renowned filmmaker, Guneet Monga – a creative spirit with whom I’ve collaborated on films like The Lunchbox, Kill, and Gyaarah Gyaarah – as she defended him against accusations of nepotism.
Speaking to News 18, she commented, “They collaborate extensively with debut directors and provide them with opportunities. They’re opening doors for numerous new writers and actors. It’s an expansive entity involved in both film and OTT productions, as well as mentoring many individuals. It’s deeply unjust to criticize them solely for working with specific groups of people.
In my professional journey this year, I’ve been fortunate to bring several films to life, including Yodha, Ae Watan Mere Watan, Mr. & Mrs. Mahi, Bad Newz, and Jigra. As we move forward, I am thrilled to announce that my production house will be supporting the upcoming romantic drama, Dhadak 2.
For those not familiar, the upcoming film is a follow-up to the 2018 release “Dhadak” and a remake of the Tamil movie named “Pariyerum Perumal.” Initially scheduled for theater release on November 22, 2024, the movie featuring Triptii Dimri and Siddhant Chaturvedi has been postponed to a later date.
