At first, I was uncertain about Karate Kid: Legends, as it appeared to disregard any connection with Cobra Kai. However, the recent trailer has now placed it among my top anticipated films for 2025. I’m excited to watch new Miyagi-Do disciple Ben Wang demonstrate his fighting skills, and the trailer, along with the first one and what TopMob witnessed at CinemaCon, has me eagerly waiting for Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio to collaborate.
In the reboot of “The Karate Kid,” featuring Daniel LaRusso and Mr. Han (portrayed by Jaden Smith), they are collaborating to instruct a new adolescent in the art of blending Miyagi-Do with his understanding of kung-fu. While the trailer offers a glimpse into this, what wasn’t visible to viewers is the unique footage unveiled at CinemaCon. Thankfully, we were present and can provide a summary of the two scenes that were presented during Sony’s event for attendees.
Ben Is Attacked In An Apartment By A Familiar Face
In his apartment, Ben searches for his mother, yet she’s missing. He spots an open window, and moments later, he’s ambushed by an unidentified attacker. During the struggle, Ben realizes his assailant is none other than Mr. Han, who aims to teach him karate. This certainly is an unusual introduction, but it fits right in with the unpredictable nature of the Karate Kid series.
Mr. Han Convinces Daniel To Come To New York
In the movie trailer, a glimpse of Mr. Han visiting Daniel at the Miyagi dojo was shown. However, during CinemaCon, an extended version was displayed, revealing that when Mr. Han arrives, he pays homage to a photo of the late karate master, and Daniel informs him that Master Miyagi has sadly passed away.

Ralph Macchio shared with me the aspects of the Karate Kid franchise he cherishes most, and it’s not that my eyes are tearing up – you must be.
Han has made it clear that he sought Daniel’s assistance in training Ben. However, Daniel seems reluctant and attempts to avoid this situation. Yet, it appears that he will ultimately travel to New York to provide Ben with the necessary preparation for the major karate competition.
Reflecting on Karate Kid Legends, it appears I’m witnessing the continuation of an enduring narrative: a teenager grappling with self-doubt who discovers inner strength through karate, finds affection, and unwittingly stirs up trouble for the master of martial arts in the local area. This timeless storyline captivated viewers on their Netflix subscriptions for ages, and I’m confident it will keep us hooked with this film as well.
The aspect of this film that truly captivates me is its intense action sequences, which seem to surpass what we witnessed in the series “Cobra Kai.” It appears that movies generally receive more financial backing to create such intricate fight scenes, or perhaps actor Li Fong’s performance is exceptionally compelling. Regardless of the reason, I’m excited and hoping for a favorable outcome where he wins the tournament and secures the affection of his love interest.
The “Karate Kid Legends” movie will hit theaters on May 30th, and I can hardly wait for even more aerial action from all the talented actors in this production! Fingers crossed that it’s as fantastic as what we experienced with Cobra Kai, and if so, let’s hope for some sequels to follow.
