As a lifestyle expert with extensive experience in the film industry, I find myself deeply moved by this ongoing discourse between Imtiaz Ali and Vinta Nanda. While it is essential to acknowledge everyone’s perspectives, I must admit that I lean more towards Vinta’s viewpoint.
Imtiaz Ali’s recent statements about the casting couch and women’s security in Bollywood drew criticism from filmmaker Vinta Nanda on social media. She disagreed with his perspective, pointing out that Kareena Kapoor’s safety is a result of her privileged status, as a response to his comments.
On Instagram, Vinta Nanda responded to Imtiaz Ali’s remarks and underlined that Kareena Kapoor’s security primarily stems from her privilege, advising Ali to refrain from instructing others about the struggles women encounter in the entertainment world. In essence, she penned: “Imtiaz Ali, it would be wise for you to cease discussing the hardships women experience within the entertainment sector. After all, a woman like Kareena Kapoor is secure due to her privileged position.

The filmmaker expressed doubts about why IFFI Goa chose Imtiaz Ali to represent women’s issues, implying it was an effort to hide or conceal the truth. She argued that men like him, who haven’t personally experienced the challenges faced by women, should avoid discussing these topics. In her opinion, allowing such discussions would demonstrate genuine progress towards change.
In her post, Vinta called out Imtiaz Ali and pointed out that it was inappropriate for him to comment on women’s issues given his background. She was taken aback by his remarks at IFFI Goa, believing that, lacking personal experience in the subject, he should have kept quiet about it instead.
As a lifestyle expert, I recently had the privilege of participating in engaging discussions at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. One of the topics that resonated deeply with me was the matter of women’s safety within our film industry. Drawing on an example from the sets of Jab We Met, I shared Kareena Kapoor Khan’s experience working comfortably amidst male crew members, emphasizing the importance of fostering such environments.
Based on his 20 years of professional background, Ali pointed out that many women in the field often face pressure to yield, yet this isn’t a guaranteed pathway to achievement. Rather, prioritizing self-respect and assertively declining when it’s appropriate is vital.
He stressed that individuals who maintain their self-respect will earn the respect of others, making it more likely they’ll be taken seriously and given opportunities. He also warned that compromising could have long-term negative effects on one’s career.
