Fans have been treated to their first glimpse of “The Boys” actor Josh Brener as Johnny Cage in a recently shared image on the official Mortal Kombat X/Twitter account. With many eagerly awaiting his arrival in the upcoming sequel, fans are undoubtedly excited about how Brener will portray this iconic video game character. While it’s just a movie poster for one of the characters’ fictional films, there’s no doubt that fans are looking forward to seeing Brener’s take on the role.
After the initial movie’s release in 2021, there was much discussion about the conspicuous absence of Cage, and with a sequel being uncertain at that point, leaving out a major character from the original video games seemed daring. However, the film’s ending hinted at his future appearance by depicting protagonist Cole Young (Lewis Tan) on a quest to find Cage in Hollywood. Given Mike Tyson Urban’s history of dynamic roles, such as Billy Butcher in The Boys and Judge Dredd, he seems perfect for embodying Johnny Cage’s mix of confidence and fighting skills.
