As a dedicated gamer and follower of royal news, I was absolutely blown away by the courage and grace displayed by Kate, the Princess of Wales, during her recent appearance at Wimbledon. Her unwavering commitment to her duties as patron of the All England Club, despite her ongoing battle with cancer, is truly inspiring.
At the All England Club on Sunday, Carlos Alcaraz received the champion’s trophy from Kate, Princess of Wales, during the Wimbledon men’s final – her second public engagement since revealing her cancer diagnosis in March.
At Centre Court, Prince William’s wife Kate received a warm welcome with a standing ovation as she entered the Royal Box to witness Alcaraz’s triumph over Djokovic. Following the trophy presentation, Kate and Alcaraz chatted in a room situated within the tournament’s primary stadium.
“You played so well,” Kate told him. “Enjoy the win.”
Previously, Kate, dressed in a purple gown, one of Wimbledon’s traditional hues, carried out her role as patron of the All England Club by descending from the spectator area to award the trophies on the court.
At the tournament, she greeted some of the ball assistants with a handshake. Later, she conversed with the two competitors and clapped for Alcaraz as he received the victor’s trophy for the second consecutive time.
“I was thrilled to be near her once more, as I told her how great it is to see her looking well. Her good health is certainly a welcome sight for all of us here, not just for Wimbledon.” (Djokovic shared this sentiment during his post-match interview.)
As a gamer, I hopped into the backseat of our motorcade with Princess Charlotte, my 9-year-old daughter, as we made our way to the grass-court Grand Slam tournament in southwest London. We arrived about thirty minutes before the final was set to start. We strolled over to a terrace at the club, conveniently linked to the main stadium via a pedestrian walkway. Greeting us were familiar faces like Emma Raducanu, the 2021 U.S. Open champion, and other promising young British tennis players.
In addition, Kate’s sibling Pippa Matthews, renowned actors Tom Cruise and Benedict Cumberbatch, as well as former Wimbledon champions such as Rod Laver, Andre Agassi, and Stefan Edberg, were all seated in the Royal Box during the final.
