This incredible story follows a remarkable woman who transformed from a model into a war photographer named Lee Miller. Through her lens, she documented the harrowing realities of World War II as she captured photos for Vogue magazine. Recently, Kate Winslet, our leading lady in this film, shared with BBC her genuine admiration for Andy Samberg’s audition for our upcoming production.
As a devoted fan myself, I can share that Andy Samberg portrays David Scherman, a Jewish photographer who served as Lee’s trusted confidant during the war. Their friendship was profound, and given Andy’s shared faith, he felt an intense connection to this role. He didn’t shy away from showing his enthusiasm; instead, he threw himself into the audition process with all his heart. When I had the privilege of extending the offer for him to join our cast, his immediate response was a heartwarming declaration about how his mother would be incredibly proud.
Oh, that was a heartwarming response from Andy Samberg! Given how movies often showcase Jewish-American experiences, it must have been quite an honor for Samberg to portray David Scherman. I’m certain his family and friends, including the star of ‘Hot Rod’, will be immensely proud of his work on the big screen.
Despite being famously known for his comedic skills, it’s surprising to consider that the co-founder of The Lonely Island hasn’t explored dramatic roles until now. Some might assume such a change would be challenging for him. Yet, he seems to have a natural talent for it, as evidenced by Kate Winslet’s praise for his acting in “Lee“.
The role held significant importance for him, and he truly shone in the movie. It was his debut in a more dramatic part as he’s generally recognized for his comedic roles. Yet, his performance was exceptional, making us a fantastic team on set. I consider myself quite fortunate to have worked with him.
