Katt Williams Has One Complaint About SNL’s Parodying Of Him: ‘I At This Point Take It As A Badge Of Honor’

In anticipation for the SNL hosts during their 50th season’s TV debut in 2025, it seems that comedian and rapper Katt Williams may not receive a call from NBC. Over the years, numerous skits featuring him have been created, and he expressed his thoughts on these impressions as well as one concern about being portrayed.

Actors such as Jay Pharoah and Ego Nwodim have played characters bearing a name that graces one of the funniest comedy specials in history. Drake, a previous host on Saturday Night Live, also offered his own interpretation of this character. Here’s what Katt Williams had to share about being featured on the show:

In a unique turn of events, I’m the only individual who has been satirically portrayed an unprecedented nine times on Saturday Night Live, yet never invited to appear other than myself. At this juncture, I view this as a distinction that they choose not to engage with me – a badge of honor, so to speak.

At Vulture’s own festival, comedian Katt Williams openly expressed his candid opinions. When prompted for more details about the exaggerated portrayals of him on the comedy sketch series, he offered the following insight:

Often, imitations of someone can reveal more about the feelings others have towards them. So, when Saturday Night Live creates an impression of me and chooses a female actor for it, they’re essentially communicating that they see me as tough or difficult. I get their message, and I don’t mind it one bit. I know how the game works, and I understand why people either adore or avoid me. My mission is to be deserving of such reactions.

In several cases, following a celebrity’s popular portrayal on Saturday Night Live, the person being imitated frequently appears afterward. For example, recall when Nicolas Cage appeared on Weekend Update alongside Andy Samberg for “Get In The Cage With Nicolas Cage.” However, differently from Katt Williams. Despite being the focus of numerous sketches, the comedian expressed feelings of not being invited to the show. He interprets this as the creators avoiding any potential conflicts, or in his words, choosing not to “mess with” him.

It took Williams a year to respond to the SNL skit based on Club Shay Shay, but it didn’t take long for Shannon Sharpe to express his thoughts about his interview being parodied. The ex-NFL player jokingly commented on how accurate the costumes were and hoped that his “sister was watching this live.

In a less conventional manner, Williams expressed some displeasure when actress Ego Nwodim depicted him on an SNL parody of Club Shay Shay in January. The Saturday Night Live sketch, which was based on his interview with Shannon Sharpe, left Williams feeling that the writers perceived him as weak or feminine for casting a woman to play him in the skit, although this may have been due to Nwodim’s exceptional talent for portraying him in the role.

Certainly, there’s always room for Katt Williams to appear on Saturday Night Live, even now. In fact, they’re planning a three-hour prime-time special, titled the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special, which is scheduled for February 16.
